Giants off to 6-1 start, including a 4-1 mark on their spring trip

Winter Haven, FL (3-12-09) - The Keystone College baseball team opened its 2009 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Arcadia University in frigid conditions in the northeast, since then the team has headed south turning a 4-1 record while competing in Florida.

The team's solid start also included a victory over nationally ranked  Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Giants still had some rust to shake off from their travels, as they dropped their first game of the Florida swing, falling to Webster University 6-4 on Saturday.  The team rebounded the next day by taking both ends of its doubleheader with Salve Regina, 8-5 and 8-7.

Back on track the Giants downed RPI on Monday, 11-8.  In that contest winning pitcher Gil Vazquez was backed by a 4-5 effort by Jayson Rohena who homered and knocked in two.  Josh Hinkle added a pair of hits, while Ray Jackson drove in three.

On Tuesday Keystone drilled former NEAC foe Cazenovia College 24-8.  Ryan Smyth picked up three hits, including a pair of doubles, in support of winning pitcher Brett Repard.  Eric Groff went yard twice, while Ben Fish also homered and doubled, as the pair drove in four runs each.

The Giants have five games remaining on their trip.
