MIscues prove costly as Giants and Pacers split twin bill

La Plume, PA (3-20-10) - Despite connecting for nine home runs on the day, it was three errors in game two that proved to be the big number, as Marywood University earned a split with 22nd ranked Keystone with a 12-11 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener the Giants knocked out 13 hits en route to a 15-3 victory.

With the split the Giants moved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the CSAC, while Marywood goes to 3-9 and 1-2.

Yazy Arbello and Donald Reese made the long ball their choice of the day, with each hitting two home runs and driving in three in game two.  Arbello also added a single for a team high three hits.

Ricky Espinosa and Ray Jackson each added two hits, with Angel Fargas adding a triple and Edwin Padua a double.

The Pacers jumped out early in the nightcap scoring twice in the first.  After the Giants scored two to tie in the top half of the second on Fargas' triple and a Gabe Torres sacrifice fly, Marywood would push across five in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-2 lead.

Keystone cut back into the lead in the third, once again scoring a pair of runs, this time on a two run shot by Arbello.  However, Marywood responded with three more in the bottom half for a 10-4 advantage.

The Giants inched back into things in the fourth when Reese homered and Roberto Santanna singled to close the gap to 10-6.  Keystone would knot things at 10 with a four run fifth, which was highlighted by Arbello's second round tripper of the day.

Eric Groff added a solo shot in the sixth to put the Giants up 11-10.  However, the pacers strung together three straight one out hits in the bottom of the seventh to gain the split.

Mike Schwartz started for the Giants, but surrendered nine runs, only two of which were earned in two and a third innings.  Brian Stern absorbed the loss allowing three runs, two earned, in four innings of work.

In the opener Groff went yard twice, while Ryan Smyth and Torres each added home runs.  Esteban Meletiche added a pair of doubles as part of a three hit game, while Arbello and Reese each added two-baggers.

Groff and Torres each drove in four in the opener, while Santana and Smyth knocked in two.

Mike Hanley worked six innings of five hit ball to earn the win.

Keystone will welcome 11th ranked Kean University to campus on Sunday in a non-conference contest.  First pitch is slated for 1pm.
