Hitting, pitching click as Giants steamroll Crimson Eagles

La Plume, PA (4-10-10) - In one of those days when everything seems to sync, the Keystone College baseball team knocked out 38 hits, scoring 30 runs, but it was the pitching staff that turned in a dominate performance of its own, allowing only two hits all day.

Keystone took both ends of its CSAC doubleheader with Philadelphia Biblical University, 13-0 and 17-0.

The Giants, who ran their win streak to nine straight, improved to 16-5 overall and 9-2 in the conference, while PBU fell to 2-16 and 0-11.

In the opener starting pitcher Mike Hanley earned the win by working five hitless innings.  Hanley, who moved to 5-0 on the year, struck out nine, facing just three batters over the minimum.  A sixth inning single surrendered by the bull pen was the only hit the Crimson Eagles could muster.

Gabe Torres collected three of the team's 14 hits which included a double, while also scoring twice.

Ryan Smyth, Kory Leicht and Anthony Pace each added two hits each, with Smyth including a home run in his line.  Pace and Leicht also added extra base hits, Pace a triple and Leicht a double.

Smyth and Pace each drove in four, with Leicht adding a pair.  Eric Groff and Torres also added doubles.

Cesar Gracia and Mike Schwartz worked a scoreless inning each in relief, with Schwartz striking out the side in the seventh.

Game two was an offensive explosion early, as the Giants sent 12 men to the plate as part of a seven run first inning.  The Giants sent at least seven men to plate in each of the first four innings, as every Keystone starter recorded at least one hit.

Donald Reese and Yazy Arbello each went deep twice, with Reese connecting on the long ball in the first and second innings and Arbello in the second and third innings.

Reese and Esteban Meletiche knocked out four hits each in 24 hit attack.  Reese mixed in a pair of singles, while Meletiche banged out three doubles and a single.  The hit hitting duo also drove in three runs each.

Reese's hot day helped raise his average 57 points to .432.

Arbello, who also singled as part of his three hit game, drove in four and scored twice.

Edwin Padua, Roberto Santana, Will Delgado, Ray Jackson and Eric Groff all had two hit games, with Jackson driving in three.

Santana, Delgado and Jackson all included doubles in their hit count.

Sean Murphy worked five innings of one hit ball to move to 2-2 on the year.  Murphy struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Following a scoreless sixth by Luis Rivera, Victor Lara worked the seventh striking out three.

The Giants and Crimson Eagles will return to action tomorrow at 2pm in Langhorne for a nine inning affair.  The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was postponed due to field conditions.

Keystone will go out of conference on Tuesday when Montclair State pays a visit in a 3:30pm start.
