Giants Split CSAC Twinbill With Mighty Macs

Bzozowski drives in seven runs in game two win

La Plume, PA – After dropping their first Colonial States Athletic Conference game of the season, 2-0 to Immaculata University on Monday afternoon, Keystone College's offense came alive in a big way in game two as the Giants scored a season-high 18 runs to claim the nightcap, 18-5.  Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) drove in seven runs in the win, tying for second all-time in program history for RBIs in a game as Keystone, currently ranked 13th in the country, moves to 16-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

In Monday's opener, Immaculata took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after putting a pair of runners on with an error by the Giants followed by a walk, and following a sacrifice bunt, an RBI groundout by Robert Wallace scored Matthew Lawson from third.

Keystone worked out of a two on, one out jam in the second inning when Rob Rogers (Islip, NY/Islip) got a strikeout and catcher Gabriel Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Perkiomen School) threw out a Mighty Mac runner trying to steal third, but the visitors doubled their lead in the third inning on a solo home run by Matthew Hardy.

Immaculata threatened again in the fourth inning, putting a pair of runners on with no outs, but Rogers fanned the next three batters he faced.  In the home half of the fifth inning, Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) hit a one out single before Bzozowski was hit by a pitch putting a pair of runners on with one out, but the Mighty Macs got an inning-ending double play to end the Giants' threat.

Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) hit a one out double for Keystone in the home half of the sixth inning, but the Giants were unable to bring him home has Immaculata starter Bryan McHale induced a pair of groundouts to keep the hosts off the board, and would go on to earn the complete game win by scattering five Keystone hits while striking out five and walking two to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Rogers was strong again on the mound for Keystone despite taking the loss as the senior went the distance and struck out nine batters while scattering five hits and walking three batters.

Hardy led the Mighty Macs with a 2-2 performance at the plate to go along with two walks.  Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) led the Giants with two hits in Monday's opener.

After being held scoreless for eight innings on the day, Keystone's offense came alive in the second inning of Monday's nightcap, as the Giants batted around and put up six runs in the frame.  McLaughlin led off the frame with a single and advanced to second on a Chris Muniz (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) groundout before scoring on an RBI single by Austin Straub (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius).  Later in the inning, Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) delivered an RBI base hit with the bases loaded to plate Straub later in the inning and Bzozowski followed by blasting a grand slam over the left field fence to give the hosts a 6-0 advantage.

The Giants made it a 8-0 game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Catherina swiped third on the front end of a double steal and came into score on a throwing error by the Mighty Macs' catcher and Gabriel Molina (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) brought home Bzozowski from second with a double to right field.

Immaculata got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Elijah Vottero doubled down the left field line to bring home Robert Wallace from second,

The Giants pushed their advantage to 10 runs in the home half of the fifth inning when Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) doubled home Straub.  Straub then scored on a deep double by Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) that hit off the top off the left field wall and Catherina would come around to score on Bzozowski sacrifice fly.

The Mighty Macs scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it an 11-5 game, but a bases loaded hit by pitch to Jhonattan Santelises (Lynn, MA/Lynn English ) brought home Muniz from third and Bzozowski followed with a two run double to stretch Keystone's advantage to nine runs.  Pinch hitter Joshua Paradoa added a two-run single and Guerrero followed with a two-run homer to left field to push the hosts lead to 18-5.

Patrick Robinson (Goshen, NY/Goshen) went six innings on the mound to earn the win for the Giants while allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out five batters.   Adam Sosnowski (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning with one strikeout to close out the win for Keystone.

Bzozowski led Keystone's offense with two hits, seven RBIs, and three runs scored.  Catherina added a 3-4, two RBI, three run performance while Molina, Straub and Guerrero added two hits apiece in the win as the Giants pounded out 17 hits in the game.

Immaculata starter Richard Cusic was tagged for six runs in two innings of work while suffering the loss for the Mighty Macs, who are now 8-9 on the season and 3-4 in conference play

Keystone returns to action on Friday afternoon when they host Neumann University in a single, nine inning CSAC game scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in La Plume.
