La Plume, PA – Keystone College's women's soccer team played to their second straight 1-1 tie as the Giants and Immaculata University finished deadlocked after 110 minutes of Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Keystone's turf field.
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) scored Keystone's lone goal for the second game in a row as the Giants move to 3-6-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play while the Mighty Mac see their record shift to 1-9-1 on the fall and 1-3-1 in the CSAC.
Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) made the first big of the save, denying an Immaculata forward with 28 minutes remaining in the first half with a diving, one-handed stop on a point blank chance for the visitors before being there again minutes later to make a nice stop at the far post. With just over 24 minutes remaining in the opening period,
Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) was there to clear a ball off the Giants' goal line to keep the game scoreless.
Keystone had their best chance of the first half with just over six and half minutes when Moranski ripped a shot from 10 yards out that forced Immaculata goalkeeper Meghan McCurnin into a strong diving stop. Just three minutes later, the freshman again broke free down the right side of the Mighty Macs penalty area and took a shot that hit the far post and stayed out and the two teams went into the halftime break knotted at 0-0 with Immaculata holding a 9-6 advantage shots in the period.
After being denied twice late in the second half, the third opportunity for Moranski proved to be the charm just 2:42 into the second half as the freshman collected a pass from
Olivia Kashuba (Dickson City, PA/Summit Christian Academy) and fired a shot from 16 yards out that McCurnin could do nothing about as Keystone took a 1-0 lead. Moranski's tally was her third of the season and her second in as many games.
Immaculata was able to put the game back on level terms in the 77
th minute though, as Carly Mirarchi collected a loose ball 20 yards from goal and unleashed a shot that beat Coon over the top to knot the score at 1-1. Neither team was able to find the back of the net thought the remainder of regulation as Keystone headed to overtime for the second-straight game.
Keystone nearly ended the game just two and a half minutes into the first period of extra time, but McCurnin thwarted Kashuba's breakaway opportunity before an Immaculata defender was able to clear the junior's rebound opportunity off the goal line.
In the second overtime period, both teams had shot from dangerous areas on direct kicks sail harmlessly over the crossbar to maintain the tie.
Immaculata held a slim, 18-16 edge in shots for the game while Keystone outshot the Mighty Macs 5-4 in the extra 20 minutes of play. The visitors also owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
Coon finished the day with eight saves in goal for Keystone while McCurnin made six stops for the Mighty Macs.
Keystone returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a CSAC game at Centenary College. Opening kickoff between the Giants and Cyclones is slated for 12:00 p.m. in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
