Alyssa Cuomo (Odessa, DE/Hodgson Vo-tech) scored a game-high 17 points while
Cierra Hensley (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and
Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) added double-doubles to lead Keystone College cruised to an 80-33 victory over visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Ashley Evans (Wooster, OH/Wooster) also reached double-figures as the Giants snapped a three-game losing skid to improve to 6-7 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Keystone raced out to a commanding, 25-2 lead over the first 7:46 of Saturday afternoon's contest before Notre Dame (3-9, 1-4 CSAC) was able to draw back within 20 points at the 11:35 mark. Holding a 31-10 lead at the 9:17 mark, the Giants would go on to outscore the Gators 18-5 the rest of the period to hold a 49-15 advantage at the halftime break.
Eight of ten Keystone players who saw action in the first half of Saturday's contest scored points, led by 10 from Cuomo while Robinson netted eight points while leading all players with six rebounds.
Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) and Evans contributed seven points apiece as the Giants shot 42.9 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three-point range, and 50 percent from the free throw line in the opening stanza.
Allyson Whitacre led Notre Dame with five first half points while Zaria Comer and Jennifer Whiting chipped in four points apiece for the Gators, who were held to just five field goals in the opening 20 minutes of play while going 0-7 from beyond the arc and 5-7 from the charity stripe.
Notre Dame scored the first five points of the second half before Keystone used a 9-0 run to push their advantage to 61-23 with 13:07 remaining and would never see their lead slip below 32 points while pulling away for the 47-point victory.
Cuomo's game-high 17 points came on a 7-15 effort from the field. Robinson finished the day with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and a game-high five assists while Hensley's third double-double of the season came on 12 points and 11 boards to go along with a game-best seven steals. Evans was the fourth Keystone play in double-figures with 10 points.
Donahue added nine points while
Jerica Rode (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack) and
AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) scored eight points apiece in the win. Hensley and Hayes contributed three assists apiece while Robinson added three steals and is now just four steals away from breaking the Giants' all-time career mark of 299 set by Ellen Fallon from 2008-2011.
For the game, Keystone connected on 37.2 percent of their field goal attempts including a 35 percent clip from long range. The Giants, who went 57.7 percent from the free throw line, held a commanding, 67-38 advantage on the glass and were plus-10 in the turnover department.
Whitacre led Notre Dame with 12 points and six steals off the bench to go along with five rebounds. Comer finished the day with six points while Naimani Staley netted five points in the loss. Marylu Ortiz paced the Gators with six points while Shaun-De Jones added five boards for the visitors, who hit on just 20.7 percent of their shots from the floor while going 2-15 (13.3 percent) from three-point range and 7-12 (58.3 percent) from the stripe.
Keystone returns to action on Monday evening with a CSAC match-up at Neumann University that is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in Aston, Pennsylvania.
