Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) and
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored second half goals to lift Keystone College to a key, 2-0 victory in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Neumann University. The Giants, who got seven saves in the shutout from
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington), improve to 5-5-1 on the season including a 5-1 mark in conference play.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play with Neumann (1-10, 1-5 CSAC) holding an 8-5 advantage in shots in the first half along with a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Heintz made four saves in the opening stanza to keep the Knights off the board while her counterpart, Kristen Montgomery, made three stops to keep the game scoreless.
Keystone got a game-changing break in the 70
th minute when Montgomery's clearing attempt deflected of Moranski and into the Neumann goal to give the Giants a 1-0 advantage. Moranski's goal – which would stand as the game-winner – was the sophomore's fourth tally of the season.
The Giants sealed the win in the 82
nd minute when Cortes collected a ball 15 yards from goal and ripped a shot past Montgomery into the bottom corner of the net to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Cortes, who has now scored in five straight games, leads Keystone with six goals on the season.
Both teams finished the game with 13 shots apiece with Keystone holding an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. The Giants also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.
Heintz notched her second solo shutout of the season as the Giants recorded their third clean sheet in the last four games while Montgomery suffered the loss in a six-save outing for the Knights.
Cortes led the visitors with four shots on the day while Moranski,
Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, NY/Stamford Central), and
Jayleen Galeno (Passaic, NJ/Scranton) fired off two shots apiece.
Keystone will hit the road on Thursday afternoon for a CSAC game at Cabrini College. Opening kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
