Immaculata, PA –
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored an unassisted goal in the 61
st minute and
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington) made eight saves to lead Keystone College to a 1-0 victory at Immaculata University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Friday afternoon. The Giants level their overall record at 4-4-1 on the season and improve to 4-0 in conference play with their fourth-straight win with the last two coming via the shutout.
On a cold and rainy afternoon at Immaculata's Draper Walsh Stadium, neither team was able to find the back of the net over the opening 45 minutes of play. The Mighty Macs held the better of the play in the first half though, outshooting Keystone by an 11-3 margin, but held just a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Heintz stopped all four shots directed on target while Immaculata goalkeeper Elizabeth McBride made three saves to keep the contest scoreless at halftime.
Play evened out over the opening 15 and a half minutes of the second half, with both teams firing off four shots apiece during that period, but it was Keystone's fourth shot of that spurt that would prove to be the difference in the game. Cortes solved McBride with 29:29 remaining in regulation for her team-leading fourth goal of the season and third in as many games to give the Giants the 1-0 advantage.
Immaculata pressured in search of the equalizer over the final half hour of the game, generating four shots and two attempts on goal, but Heintz was there to foil both attempts that were on target to secure her first solo shutout for the Giants as Keystone recorded their second shutout in a row.
Keystone has not allowed a goal in their last 214:07 of action while Heintz pushed her personal shutout streak to 207:37.
Immaculata (2-7-1, 2-2 CSAC) held a 19-11 advantage in shots for the game, but Keystone held a 9-8 edge in shots on goal for the game while both teams finished with two corner kicks apiece.
Heintz and McBride made eight saves each for their respective clubs in goal.
Cortes and
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) led Keystone with four shots apiece while
Jayleen Galeno (Passaic, NJ/Scranton) took two shots on the afternoon.
Keystone will look to remain perfect in the CSAC on Wednesday evening when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy University for a conference match that is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m. in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.
