La Plume, PA – Daniel Lamanna scored an unassisted goal with just 3:01 remaining in regulation to lift Centenary College to a 2-1 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones, who rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit, improve to 10-5 on the season including a 5-1 mark in league play while the Giants slip to 6-6-1 overall and 3-3 in the CSAC.
Centenary took the first six shots of Tuesday's game including one that rang off the goalpost in the 23
rd minute, but Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the 30
th minute when
Jordan Vance (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) scored the first goal of his collegiate career. The freshman collected a loose ball just outside the 18-yard box and laced a shot into the back corner of the net to give the Giants the lead.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net as the visitors took the one-goal edge into break despite being outshot 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
The Cyclones built more sustained offensive pressure as the second half wore on and finally broke through with the equalizer in the 69
th minute on Justin White's sixth goal of the season. Lamanna served a one-touch cross to White, who headed the ball past Keystone goalkeeper
Adam Zbiciak (Saint Johns, MI/St. Johns) to knot the score at 1-1.
The game appeared to be headed for overtime until Lamanna's late game heroics, as the sophomore dribbled past several defenders before firing home a shot from just outside the penalty area with what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 87
th minute.
Centenary held a 23-13 advantage in shots for the game while doubling up the Giants in shots on goal, 8-4. Keystone held a 5-1 lead in corner kicks on the afternoon.
Jesse Goleman picked up the win in goal for the Cyclones with a three-save performance while Zbiciak suffered the loss despite turning aside six shots by the hosts.
Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) led Keystone with four shots on the day,
Abreham Kittel (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) attempted three shots, and
Rolando Rodriguez (Linden, NJ/Linden) had two shots to pace the visitors.
The Giants will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host local rival Marywood University in another key conference tilt starting at 3:00 p.m. on Keystone's turf field in La Plume.
