Keystone’s Women’s Lacrosse Debut Spoiled by Centenary

Hawkins leads Giants with three points in 15-3 setback to Cyclones

La Plume, PA – Keystone College's women's lacrosse team had its program debut spoiled by visiting Centenary College on Wednesday afternoon as the Cyclones defeated the Giants 15-3 in a Colonial States Athletic Conference on Keystone's turf field.  Centenary levels their record at 1-1 on the season while moving to 1-0 in conference play while the Giants (0-1, 0-1 CSAC) will have their next change at their first victory on Saturday, March 21st
 
Devin Sutko led all players with 11 points on three goals and a school-record eight assists for the Cyclones, who got four goals from Abby Voelkner and four tallies from Carlie Schmitt in the victory.
 
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) paced Keystone's offense by factoring in all three of the Giants' markers with two goals and one assist on the afternoon.  Bianca Dolac (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East) also scored for the hosts.
 
Centenary raced out to a 4-0 lead over the first 5:10 of Wednesday afternoon's contest before extending their lead to 10-0 with 11:28 remaining in the first half.  Hawkins scored the first goal in Keystone history unassisted with 3:53 left in the opening 30 minutes of play, but a tally by the Cyclones with a minute and a half remaining in the frame gave the visitors an 11-1 advantage at halftime.
 
The Giants came out much stronger in the second half and held Centenary to four goals in the final 30 minutes.  After the Cyclones extended their lead to 14-1, Dolac netted her first collegiate goal with 11:08 remaining in the contest after taking a feed from Hawkins, who netted her second marker of the contest with just under eight minutes to play with Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) assisting on the goal as Keystone cut their deficit to 14-3.  Centenary closed out the scoring with a man-up goal with 5:09 left on the clock.
 
Hannah Fisher finished with seven saves in goal to pick up the victory for Centenary, who held a 24-12 advantage in shots for the game while claiming an 18-14 edge in groundballs.  The Cyclones also won 14 of the game's 20 draw controls and went 9-14 on clear attempts.
 
Maria DiMartin (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) made three saves in goal for Keystone, who got three groundballs apiece from Dolac and Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton)AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) scooped up two groundballs for the Giants, who got a pair of caused turnovers from both Hawkins and Dolac on the afternoon.   
 
Keystone will return to the field on Saturday, March 21st with a CSAC game against Cabrini College starting at 1:00 p.m. on the Giants' turf field in La Plume.
