Big First Half Propels Pacers Past Giants

Marywood remains unbeaten in CSAC play with 18-1 victory

La Plume, PA – Marywood University scored the first seven goals of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game at Keystone College and never looked back in an 18-1 victory on a frigid afternoon in La Plume.   The Pacers improve to 5-3 on the season including a perfect, 4-0 mark in conference play while the Giants slip to 0-4 overall (0-4 CSAC).

Marywood built a 7- advantage over the first 8:17 of Saturday's contest, getting three goals from Stacy Griffing and two apiece from Caitlin Watson and Dana Grossjung during the run.  Bianca Dolac (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East) snapped the Pacers' quick start by netting her third goal of the season after taking a pass from Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham), who recorded her team-leading eighth point of the season with the assist.

The visitors answered Dolac's tally with five goals in the next 10 minutes to claim a 12-1 advantage with 10:55 remaining in the first half before adding three more goals to take a 15-1 lead into halftime.

Marywood tacked on three more goals in the second half, all coming in the final 10 minutes of the contest, to close out the scoring.

Griffing led all players with four goals while Watson added two goals and two assists for Marywood.  Natalie Burke and Sam Bussinelli contributed two goals and an assists apiece while Katrina Kelly led all players with three helpers for the Pacers, who held a 27-10 advantage in shots for the game while holding a 32-20 edge in groundballs.

Lauren Smith made three saves in goal in the first half to earn the win while Teressa Izzo made one stop in the second half in the Pacers' cage.

Keystone's Kaelyn Englert (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) led all players with five groundballs on the day to go along with three caused turnovers while Dolac added game-highs of four caused turnovers and four draw controls for the hosts, who held an 11-10 edge in draw controls for the game.

Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) was credited with four groundballs, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls while Domonique Swann (Waldorf, MD/Westlake) made eight saves in goal for Keystone.

The Giants will travel to Neumann University on Thursday afternoon for a CSAC contest.  Opening draw between the Giants and Knights is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Aston, Pennsylvania.
