La Plume, PA – Keystone College's women's lacrosse team enjoyed their best offensive output of their inaugural season on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Giants suffered a 20-7 loss to visiting Immaculata University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest. The Mighty Macs lift their record to 7-5 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
Keystone (0-7, 0-7 CSAC) was paced offensively by
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham), who recorded seven points on three goals and four assists while
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) also scored a hat trick for the Giants, who got 10 saves from
Domonique Swann (Waldorf, MD/Westlake) in the setback to the Mighty Macs.
Immaculata opened the scoring 52 seconds into Saturday's game before Hawkins leveled the contest just 15 seconds. The Mighty Macs responded by scoring the five goals of the day to open up a 6-1 advantage just under four an a half minutes into the contest. Hodanich's first goal of the day off of a Hawkins' assist at the 22:37 mark snapped the visitor's run, but Immaculata went on a 7-0 run to open up a 13-2 advantage midway through the period.
Hodanich and Hawkins both scored their second goals of the day in the final 1:40 of the first half to cut the Giants' deficit to 13-4 at halftime.
Immaculata netted the first two goal of the second half to open up a 15-4 lead before back-to-back goals from
Kaelyn Englert (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) and Hodanich narrow the host's gap to nine goals with 21:11 remaining. The Mighty Macs used a three-goal run to open up an 18-6 cushion before Hawkins netted her third goal of the game at the 10:56 mark. Immaculata closed out the scoring by netting the final two goals of the game in last nine minutes of the contest.
Danielle Lopez (4goals, 3 assists) and Kelly Lapp (3 goals, 4 assists) had seven points apiece to lead Immaculata, who also got multi-point games from Allison Jakavick (3 goals, 3 assists), Hannah Verrecchi (4 goals, 1 assist), Shannon Neill (3 goals, 1 assist), and Alyssa Petito (2 goals, 2 assists).
Christine McIntyre finished the afternoon with five saves to pick up the win in goal for the Mighty Macs.
Hawkins, who now leads Keystone with 15 points on eight goals and seven assists, also contributed nine draw controls and three groundballs.
Maria DiMartin (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) paced the Giants with five groundballs and three caused turnovers while
AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) added a pair of caused turnovers on the day.
For the game, Immaculata outshot Keystone 33-12 while holding a 33-16 advantage in groundballs. The Mighty Macs also controlled 19 of the contest's 29 draws.
Keystone will wrap up their season with three games on the road beginning on Thursday at Gwynedd Mercy University. The CSAC contest between the Giants and Griffins is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.
