Gwynedd Valley, PA – Host Gwynedd Mercy University clinched a berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse playoffs with an 18-2 victory over Keystone College in conference action on Thursday night. Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) gave Keystone a 1-0 lead just 35 seconds into Thursday night's game with an unassisted goal, but Gwynedd Mercy responded with the game's next four goals to claim a 4-1 advantage with 20:23 remaining in the first half.
Hawkins netted her second goal of the game at the 17:19 mark to cut the Giants' deficit to two goals, but the Griffins tallied the last six goals of the first half to hold a 10-2 lead at the completion of the first 30 minutes of play.
Coming out of the break, Gwynedd Mercy quickly pushed their lead to 14-2 with four goals in the first 7:16 of the second half before tacking on four goals in the final 12 minutes to close out the scoring.
Lauren Mitros led the Griffins attack with four goals and one assist while Kelsey Yori and Brianna Greer both contributed three goals and one assist for the Griffins, who also got hat tracks from Danae Perrymond. Bria Gillard made one save in goal to pick up the win for the hosts.
An addition two her two goals, Hawkins led all players with three caused turnovers for Keystone while leading the squad with three draw controls to go along with a trio of groundballs.
AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) paced the Giants with four groundballs to go along with two caused turnovers while
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) also scooped up three groundballs on the evening. Hayes,
Brittany VanAmburg (Montour Falls, NY/Odessa-Montour), and
Kaelyn Englert (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) also picked up draw controls for the visitors.
Gwynedd Mercy held commanding, 50-6 advantage in shots for the game while winning the groundball battle by a 26-15 margin. The Griffins also claimed 16 of the contest's 22 draw controls.
Keystone will wrap up the CSAC portion of their schedule on Saturday at Rosemont College. Opening draw between the Giants and Ravens is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.
