La Plume, PA – After withstanding a late comeback bid to win Monday afternoon's first game 10-9, Immaculata University completed a sweep of Keystone College with a 6-3 win in game two in Colonial States Athletic Conference softball action at Edmunds Field. The Mighty Macs lift their record to 7-15 overall including a 7-5 mark in conference play while the Giants slip to 6-12 on the season and 4-8 in the CSAC.
Immaculata jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first at-bats of Monday's opener as Annemarie Bartow hit a three-run home run. Keystone got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when
Sara Schraden (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored on an error by the Mighty Macs and the Giants used a three-run third inning to claim a 4-3 lead.
Emily Long (Shamokin, PA/Lourdes Regional) hit a two-run single before coming home on a
Kaitlyn Sawicki (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) base hit.
The visitors scored five runs on four hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch in the fourth inning to build an 8-4 lead before adding on two more, much needed insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning. Keystone narrowed their deficit to 10-5 in the home sixth on a
Karissa Worobey (Scranton, PA/Scranton) RBI double down the left field line. The Giants rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning with four runs on six hits, but Immaculata pitcher Meghan Kugler held on for the save by leaving the bases loaded.
Caitlin Brasier (4-10) picked up the win in the circle for the Mighty Macs after allowing nine runs on 15 hits in six inning of work before turning the ball over to Kugler, who notched her first save of the season after walking one before recording the last three outs.
Bartow, Melissa Ejk, and Caitlyn Hudock had two hits apiece to lead the Mighty Macs in the opener.
Worobey suffered the loss despite turning in a complete-game effort with one strikeout for Keystone, who got three hits apiece from Schraden and Sawicki along with a pair of hits from Long and
Kimberly Rivera (New York, NY/South Bronx Campus) while holding a 15-12 advantage in hits in game one.
In the nightcap, Immaculata took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single, but Keystone scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. Long scored on an error in the outfield following a
Lindsey Bucklaw (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale Area) single before
Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical) drove in Rivera with a sacrifice fly.
The Mighty Macs leveled the game up at two-apiece in the top of the third inning on an RBI double, but Keystone went back in front in their half of the frame as
Katie Thompson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) came home on another error by the visitors.
Immaculata went back in front for good in the visitor's fourth, taking advantage of four hits and three Keystone errors to score three unearned runs while claiming a 6-3 lead which would mark the end of the scoring for either squad.
Kugler improve to 3-5 on the rubber for the Mighty Macs by turning in a complete-game three-hitter with four strikeouts.
Christiana Donofry and Tabitha Mulholland had three hits apiece for Immaculata, who outhit the Giants by a 13-3 margin in the second game of the day.
Worobey fell to 4-10 on the season despite allowing just two earned runs and striking out three in the nightcap. Thompson, Schraden, and Johnson-Fite accounted for Keystone's three hits in game two.
The Giants will play the first of four straight road contests on Tuesday with a CSAC twin bill at Rosemont College. First pitch between the Giants and Ravens is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.
