Men’s Soccer Edged Out By GMU in CSAC Opener, 1-0

Griffins score game’s only goal with 29 seconds left in first half

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Gwynedd Mercy University scored with 29 seconds left in the first half of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer game with Keystone College and held on for a 1-0 victory.  The Griffins improve to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play while the Giants fall to 3-4-1 on the fall including a 0-1 mark in the CSAC.

Keystone held a 7-4 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, but Gwynedd Mercy's last shot of the first half would provide the game it's only goal.  Seth Linder played a ball across the box to Brandon Rodriguez, who found the back of the net to put the hosts in front.

The Giants were unable to pull level despite applying strong pressure in the second half as the Griffins escaped with the one-goal victory.

Keystone held a slim, 10-9 advantage in shots for the game with Gwynedd Mercy holding a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.  The Giants also generated four corner kicks to three for the Griffins.

Matt Chilcote picked up the shutout victory for Gwynedd Mercy after making five saves in net.  Adam Zbiciak (Saint Johns, MI/St. Johns) suffered the loss for Keystone despite turning aside five shots by the Griffins on the day.

Eddy Enowbi (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) led the Giants with four shots on the afternoon including two on target while Brandyn Favero (Beamsville, Ontario/Blessed Trinity Catholic) took a pair of shots, placing one on frame.

Keystone will look to for their first conference win next Saturday when they visit Rosemont College for a CSAC tilt scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.
