La Plume, PA – Keystone College scored a pair of goals in first 14:44 of Tuesday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women soccer game against visiting Cedar Crest College and made them stand in a 2-0 victory over the Falcons. The Giants, now 3-4-1 overall on the season, lift their unblemished conference record to 3-0 with their third straight win.
Keystone jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 5:13 into Tuesday's game when
Kristy Hansen (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) picked up a loose ball just outside Cedar Crest's 18-yard box and ripped a shot in over the head of Falcons' goalkeeper Shelby Szoke for her first collegiate goal. The Giants doubled their lead in the 15
th minute on a beautiful, one-touch finish by
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) to the near post off a
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) cross for her third goal of the fall.
The hosts maintained the two-goal advantage at halftime after doubling up Cedar Crest in shots, 12-6, over the opening 45 minutes of play including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Szoke made five first half saves to keep the visitors in the game while Keystone goalkeeper
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington) stopped all three Falcons' shots directed at her to keep Cedar Crest of the scoreboard.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half despite several good chances at both ends of the field as Szoke and Heintz both made several fine saves on a the slick turf surface. Keystone outshot Cedar Crest by a 15-9 margin in the second half to finish the game with a 27-15 advantage in shots while placing 17 shots on goal versus nine on target for the Falcons.
Heintz made eight save in the first 83:30 in goal to help lead Keystone to their first shutout of the season while
Amber Crews (Plainfield, NJ/Central Jersey College Prep ) made one stop in the final 6:30 in net to preserve the clean sheet.
Szoke finished the contest with 15 saves for Cedar Crest (3-5-2, 0-4 CSAC).
In addition to their 12-shot advantage, the Giants generated nine corner kick chances on the day compared to two for the Falcons.
Keystone will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they visit Immaculata University for a CSAC tilt scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. in Immaculata, Pennsylvania.
