Nina Carbonaro (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) scored the first goal of her collegiate career with 1:18 left in regulation to lift Keystone College to a 1-1, double-overtime tie with the Pennsylvania College of Technology in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Giants and Wildcats both see their records move to 0-1-1 on the season with the draw.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half with Penn holding a 13-9 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play. Keystone goalkeeper
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington) made six first half saves while Wildcat netminder Hailey Heistand turned aside four shots in the period to keep the game scoreless.
The majority of the second half mirrored the first stanza with both teams generating opportunities, but neither side being able to capitalize. Penn finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the 85
th minute when Christina Weber scored an unassisted goal, firing a shot from outside the box into the top right corner of the net to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage.
The hosts seemed to be in shape to pull out the win with the late goal, but Keystone worked some late-game magic in the 89
th minute as
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) fed a pass to Carbonaro, who found the back of the net for the equalizer to send the game to overtime.
Penn held a 4-1 edge in shots for the course of the two, 10-minute overtime periods, but Heintz was up to the test each time as the two teams remained knotted at 1-1 after 110 minutes of play.
The Wildcats outshot the Giants by a 30-14 margin for the game including a 13-8 advantage in shots on goal. Penn also generated 14 corner kick opportunities to nine for Keystone.
Heintz finished the day with 12 saves for the Giants while Heistand made seven stops for the Wildcats.
Keystone will be right back in action on Sunday with a non-conference game at Lycoming College that will kickoff at 12:00 p.m. in Williamsport.
