Keystone Notches Third Win in Last Four Games, 91-85 at Rosemont

Six Giants reach double-figures at Keystone enjoys best offensive showing of season

Rosemont, Pa. – Tyree Jones (Harlem, NY/Holcombe L. Rucker) led six Keystone College players in double-figures with 22 points as the Giants picked up a 91-85 victory in a Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball tilt at Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon.  The Giants, who have now one three of their last four games, improve to 3-10 overall on the season and 3-5 in the CSAC while the Ravens fall to 6-9 on the year and 4-4 in league play.

Tyreek Peeples (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) added 16 points and a game-high seven assists while ShaShawn Drayton (Monticello, NY/Monticello) and James Cooper (Freehold, NJ/Pius X) added 12 points apiece for Keystone, who avenged a 75-73 setback suffered to Rosemont in December.  Eric Hardaway (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Bryan Williams (Los Angeles, CA/Rialto) also reached double-figures with 10 points each in the win with Williams's effort marking a new career-high.

Keystone opened up a 22-14 lead with 8:11 remaining in the first half on Saturday when Cooper connected on a three-pointer, but Rosemont used a 9-2 run to cut their deficit to 24-23 with just under five minutes left in the period.  The Giants held onto the lead for the remainder of the stanza, stretching it to as many as five points before taking a 34-31 edge into the intermission.

Cooper and Hardaway led Keystone with eight points each while Williams added seven points over the first 20 minutes of play.  Peeples dished out four assists in the opening half while Cooper and Williams pulled down seven rebounds apiece for the Giants, who shot 36.1 percent from the floor in the frame while going 3-12 from three-point range and 4-7 from the free throw line.

Charles Presley paced all scorers with 10 points in the first half for Rosemont, who connected on 29 percent of their field goal attempts in the period while shooting 5-13 from downtown and 8-17 from the stripe.

Rosemont scored six of the first eight points coming out of the break to take a 37-36 lead and the two team traded the lead six times over the next 10 minutes with the Ravens holding their largest lead of the afternoon, 67-62, with 8:10 showing on the clock.  The hosts held the lead until the 4:16 mark when Jones tied the score at 74-apiece on a layup, but Rosemont went back in front by hitting the backend of a pair of free throws.

Jones connected on a three-pointer with 3:49 to play to give Keystone a 77-75 lead, and advantage the Giants would not relinquish as the visitors went 9-10 from the free throw line in the minute to secure the win.

Jones added five assists to his 22-point effort, which came on 8-15 shooting including three made three-pointers and a 3-4 effort at the line.  Cooper and Williams tied for the team-lead with nine rebounds apiece for Keystone, who got eight boards from Devin Williams (Monticello, NY/Monticello) and a pair of blocked shots by Drayton.

Keystone, who enjoyed their best offensive showing of the season with their 91 points, shot 47.1 percent from the field for the game including a hot, 58.8 showing in the second half.  The Giants also shot 35 percent from long range and 75 percent from the line while holding a 49-44 advantage in rebounding.

Marcus Thomas posted game-highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds to go along with six assists to lead Rosemont, who got 20 points from Presley.  Khai Roberts chipped in with 13 points for the Ravens, who hit on 37.1 percent of their field goal attempts, 38.5 percent of their shots from beyond the arc, and 56.1 percent of their free throw efforts.

Keystone will have a quick turnaround as they host Brooklyn College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference game in the Gambal Athletic Center.
