Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) scored a game-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough to help Keystone College overcome a slow start as the Giants dropped a 93-51 decision to Cabrini College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 11-8 on the season with the win including an 8-2 mark in conference play while the Giants slip to 7-11 overall and 4-6 in the CSAC.
A slow start doomed Keystone on Saturday, as Cabrini scored the first 10 points of the game and led 20-3 before holding a 25-4 advantage after the first period. The Cavaliers pushed their lead to 31 points early in the second stanza and would hold a 48-12 advantage at halftime after holding the Giants to just three field goals over the first 20 minutes of play.
Cabrini's Kate Skalski led all scorers with 11 points in the first half while Meghan Martin netted seven points for the Cavaliers, who shot 47.2 percent from the field over the first two periods while going 5-11 from three-point range and 9-12 from the free throw line.
Hall and
Catia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Bel Air) both connected on first half three-pointers for Keystone, while
Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) led the squad with four rebounds. The Giants shot just 11.1 percent from the field and were 2-10 from beyond the arc in the first two quarters while connected on four of eight free throw shots.
Keystone outscored Cabrini 8-7 over the first 4:21 of the third period, but the Cavaliers opened up a commanding, 72-25 advantage heading into the final 10 minute stanza. The Giants continued to battle despite the score line, and outscored the hosts 26-19 in the fourth quarter, but the result was all but decided by that point.
Skalski paced Cabrini with 17 points while Martin finished with 14 points. Mo O'Connell and Nomi Washington also reached double-figures with 10 points each for the Cavaliers, who got a game-high nine rebounds from Kristina Startare. The hosts, who held a 57-43 advantage on the glass and were plus-11 (13-24) in turnovers, shot 43.5 percent from the floor for the game including a 40 percent clip from long range and a 74.2 percent showing at the line.
Hall added two assists and two steals to her game-high 20 points to lead Keystone while
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) added nine points and two assists.
Daynara Elysee (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) contributed seven points and tied with Williams and
Brianna Nolen (Union Bridge, MD/Walkersville) for the team-lead with five rebounds while
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) chipped in with six points. Nolen also dished out a pair of helpers while
Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) tied with Hall for the team-best with two takeaways.
The Giants shot 26.7 percent from the field for the game after a 39.4 percent showing in the second half. The visitors also went 27.3 percent from three-point range and 59.1 percent from the line on the day.
Keystone will travel to Immaculata University for a CSAC contest starting at 6:00 p.m. in Immaculata, Pennsylvania.
