Immaculata, Pa. – Reilly Larkin scored a game-high 29 points to lead host Immaculata University to a 73-58 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night. The Mighty Macs improve to 5-15 on the season and 5-6 in conference play while the Giants fall to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in the CSAC after suffering their third-straight setback.
Keystone scored the first four points of Wednesday's contest and held an 8-7 edge at the 6:56 mark of the first quarter after
Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area) scored on a jump shot, but Immaculata scored the next eight points to claim a 15-8 edge. The Giants cut their deficit to three points at the 3:41 mark, but the Mighty Macs pushed their lead to as many as eight points and held a 21-15 lead after the first 10-minute stanza.
Leading 25-18 midway through the second quarter, Immaculata used an 8-0 burst to open up a 15-point edge and would maintain the double-digit advantage before holding a 44-29 lead at the intermission after connecting on a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer.
Larkin and Gina Cocci had 12 points apiece for Immaculata in the first half while Tamyra Laws led all players with eight points for the Mighty Macs, who shot 46.2 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play including a 6-9 showing from three-point range and a 66.7 percent performance at the free throw line.
Moro paced Keystone with 10 points and five rebounds in the first half while
Daynara Elysee (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) and
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) chipped in with six points apiece for the Giants, who converted on 33.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the first two periods while going just 1-8 from long distance and 6-10 from the foul line.
The two teams traded field goals to open the third period before
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) converted the backend of a pair of free throws to bring the Giants to with 46-32, but Immaculata pushed their lead to 19 points midway through the period. Keystone continued to battle and used a 6-0 spurt to climb to with 56-43 on a Hodanich layup with 1:19 remaining, but the Mighty Macs pushed back with the next four points and took a 60-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
Garrett opened the scoring in the final stanza with a lay-in, but Immaculata countered with the next five points. Trailing 68-49 with 7:15 left on the clock,
Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) sandwiched a pair of field goals around a layup by Moro to bring Keystone back to within 13 points at the 3:53 mark, but that was as close as the Giants would come as the Mighty Macs closed out the 15-point victory.
In addition to her game-high 29 points, Larkin led all player with eight assists and four steals for Immaculata, who got 16 points from Cocci. Laws finished with a double-double on 13 points and a game-best 21 rebounds for the Mighty Macs, who held a 47-36 advantage on the glass for the evening. The hosts shot 41.5 percent from the field including a solid, 56.3 showing from downtown and a 66.7 percent effort from the line.
Moro scored 14 points to lead Keystone and finished a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Williams, Elysee, and Hodanich netted 10 points apiece for the Giants with Williams also adding five caroms and a team-high four helpers. Garrett added seven points and blocked two shots for the visitors, who forced Immaculata into 24 turnovers while giving the ball away 17 times themselves. Keystone finished the evening shooting 33.9 percent from the field and went just 2-15 from three-point range. The Giants also turned in a 60.9 showing at the charity stripe.
Keystone returns home to the Gambal Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon when they host Gwynedd Mercy University in a CSAC contest starting at 1:00 p.m. in La Plume. The game is part of the CSAC's #Play4JaylenandJP" Day with a $2.00 entrance donation being charged with all proceeds going toward the cause.
