Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, N.Y./New Paltz) scored three goals to lead Keystone College to a 5-0 victory at Clarks Summit University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon.
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) and
Amber Smith (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) also scored for the Giants, who improved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play with their third shutout in the last four games.
Cortes opened the scoring just 7:03 into Saturday's contest by converting a penalty kick for her third goal of the season. Moranski pushed Keystone's lead to 2-0 in the 30
th minute, running onto a nice thru-ball from
Jordyn Olsen (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and finishing off the play.
After holding the two-goal lead and a 6-5 edge in shots in the first half, the Giants opened up the contest in the second half, attempting 19 shots to six for the Defenders.
Moranski pushed Keystone's lead to 3-0 in the 50
th minute by lifting a shot over the head of Clarks Summit goalkeeper Elysia Hinkel from the top of the box. The junior then completed her hat trick in the 70
th minute, tapping in a crossing pass at the back post from
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, Md./Aberdeen) for her team-leading fifth tally of the season.
Smith closed out the scoring in the 79
th minute, netting the first goal of her collegiate career by knocking home a rebound on a shot by
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View).
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) picked up the win in goal without being forced to make a save in the first half while
Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) made three stops in the second half to secure the shutout for the Giants.
Hinkel finished the afternoon with eight saves in goal for Clarks Summit, who fell to 1-9 (0-4 CSAC) on the season.
Keystone held a 25-11 advantage in shots for the game including a 13-4 edge in shots on goal. The Giants also generated four corner kick chances for the day to just one for Clarks Summit.
Keystone will host Cabrini University in a CSAC contest on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
