La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College scored four goals in the final 24 minutes of Saturday night's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer game against visiting Rosemont College to pull away with a 4-0 victory. The Giants improve to 8-3-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play with their sixth-straight win.
Keystone remains alone atop the CSAC standings with five wins and 15 points, both program bests since the Giants joined the conference in 2008.
Both teams had chances in the first half of Saturday's contest, but neither side was able to find the back of the net. Keystone held a 10-7 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, but Rosemont goalkeeper Zach Bowe making five saves and Giants' netminder
Malcom Moreira (Hillside, N.J./St. Benedict Prep) turning aside two shots.
Keystone finally broke through in the 67
th minute of the contest as the hosts were awarded a penalty kick after
Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was fouled in the Rosemont's penalty area following a great individual run with the ball down the center of the Ravens' defense.
Haris Sabovic (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) stepped up to the spot and calmly depositing his fourth goal from the spot this fall to give the Giants the 1-0 edge.
Sabovic doubled Keystone's lead in the 72
nd minute by slotting a shot inside the far post after running onto a thru-ball from
Abreham Kittel (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) for his CSAC-leading 11
th goal of the year. Kouadio also picked up an assist on the tally.
Ibrahim Tounkara (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) stretched the Giants' advantage to 3-0 in the 81
st minute, running onto a ball played overtop of Rosemont's defense by
Jalen Freeman (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) and dribbling around Bowe before depositing the ball into the vacant net. Tounkara's tally was the freshman's fifth tally of the year.
Kouadio capped the scoring in the 88
th minute, taking a thru-ball from Sabovic before having his shot deflect off a Ravens' defender and past Bowe for his fifth goal of the fall. Sabovic's helper was his team-leading sixth helper of the year and extended the senior's CSAC-best point total to 28 on the year.
Moreira made four saves to earn his sixth win of the season and third clean sheet for the Giants while Bowe was charged with the loss despite turning aside seven shots on the evening.
Keystone held an 18-15 advantage in shots for the game along with an 11-4 lead in shots on goal. The Giants also doubled up the Ravens in corner kick chances, 6-3.
Saturday's contest was a Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer Game, with all proceeds benefiting the Go4TheGoal Foundation which helps children with cancer achieve their goals.
Keystone will host Neumann University on Tuesday night in a CSAC contest starting at 7:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
