Glenside, Pa. – Keystone College's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon at the Arcadia University Invitational. The Giants defeated Albright College in four sets before dropping a five-set decision to host Arcadia to move their record to 12-9 on the fall.
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) was named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 46 kills and 28 digs on the day.
Match 1 vs. Albright
In Saturday's opening match against the Lions (8-13), Keystone won the opening set 25-19 before Albright leveled the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 decision of its own in game two. The Giants went back in front, 2-1, with a 25-14 victory in the third set before closing out the victory with a tight, 25-23 decision in game four.
Zuchowski powered Keystone with 22 kills,
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) had 11 kills, and
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) put down nine kills for the Giants, who posted a .242 hitting percentage in the win.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) and
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had 24 assists apiece while
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) picked up a match-best 33 digs. Beatty added 12 digs while Binkley picked up 10 digs against the Lions.
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) led all players with four aces, Hardy had five blocks, and Bowen added four blocks.
Maddy Greth paced Albright with 12 kills, Claudia Guise had 29 assists, and Becca Davis collected 27 digs for the Lions, who hit .146 as a team in the loss.
Match 2 vs. Arcadia
In Saturday's nightcap against the host Knights (13-11), the Giants fell behind 2-0 with a pair of hard-fought, 25-23 setbacks in the first two sets before making it a 2-1 match with a 25-20 decision in game three. Keystone forced a fifth set with a 25-23 win in game four, but Arcadia won the decisive set, 15-12.
Zuchowski led Keystone with 24 kills and 21 digs, Beatty had 11 kills, and Bowen had nine kills to pair with a team-leading 40 assists. Zuchowski and Bowen also had a pair of aces each for the Giants, who recorded a .207 hitting percentage in the loss.
Heitman tied with Zuchowski for the team lead in digs with 21, Homfeld had 18 digs, Bowen had 12 digs, and Binkley picked up 10 digs for the Giants.
Becca Campf powered Arcadia with 17 kills, Colleen Stengel dished out a match-high 43 assists, and Emily Eng led all players with 30 digs for the hosts, who logged a .178 hitting percentage in the win.
