La Plume, Pa. – Albright College scored five unanswered first half goals to overcome an early deficit at Keystone College on its way to a 7-2 victory over the Giants a non-conference field hockey game on Monday afternoon. Amanda Long scored four goals to help the Lions improve to 11-3 on the season while dropping the Giants to 5-8 overall.
Keystone jumped out to a fast start on Monday afternoon as
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) gave the Giants a 1-0 lead just 4:58 into the contest.
Ayana Crawford (Washington, D.C./Elizabeth Seton) started the play with a run down the middle of the field and had her shot saved before passing the rebound to Bain, who scored into the vacant net for her team-leading 11
th goal of the season. Crawford's assist was the second of the year for the freshman.
Albright needed just 29 seconds to equalize when Marley Berger scored on a shot from the right side of the Giants' cage before taking a 2-1 edge in the seventh minute on an unassisted goal by Tracy Snyder.
Long scored a pair of goals separated by a span of just 1:46 to make it a 4-1 game before Kendra Delgado scored with just under four minutes left in the opening 35 minutes of play to take a five-goal advantage into the halftime break.
Long completed her hat trick 2:44 into the second half before
Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) blasted home her second goal of the season in the 47
th minute after taking a feed from
Abby Shupp (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton) on a penalty corner. Shupp's assist gave the freshman the first point of her collegiate career.
Long capped the scoring in the 52
nd minute by tapping in a shot at the back with Snyder assisting on the tally.
Albright goalkeeper Aileen Taylor made three saves to pick up the win while Krya Scerbo added a defensive save for the Lions, who outshot Keystone by a 31-10 margin while holding a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) made six saves in 44:38 of action in the Giants' cage while
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) added a game-high 10 stops.
Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) also picked up her first defensive save of the year in the loss.
Keystone will travel to Allentown on Wednesday afternoon for an important Colonial States Athletic Conference game against Cedar Crest College starting at 4:00 p.m.
