Giants Doubled Up By Rutgers-Camden, 6-3

Eady drives in all three Keystone runs in non-conference loss

La Plume, Pa. – Rutgers-Camden scored six runs in the final four innings to rally for a 6-3 victory over Keystone College in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.  The Raptors lift their record to 18-9 overall while the Giants drop to 20-6 this spring after having a five-game winning streak snapped.

Brady Barr (Bowie, MD/Bowie) led off the bottom of the third inning with a single down the right field line and would come around to score the game's first out on an RBI groundout by Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic) to give Keystone a 1-0 lead.

Rutgers-Camden leveled the game at one-apiece in the top of the sixth inning when Chris Jones scored on a single to left off the bat of Doug Carter Jr. before adding a pair of insurance runs in the visitors eighth. Jon Theckston hit an RBI single to left field before Cory Kreamer drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Raptors a 4-1 lead.

Keystone battled right back into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Eady launched a double to deep centerfield to drive in Tony Hunter II (Atlanta, GA/South Effingham) and Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian).

Rutgers-Camden countered with a pair of unearned insurance run back in the top of the ninth as Carter hit an RBI double before Theckston drove Carter in with a single up the middle to give the Raptors a 6-3 advantage.

Rutgers-Camden starting pitcher Chris Scarlett was credited with the win after allowing one run on three hits while striking out 10 batters in six innings of work.  Carter Fichter and Billy Jackson got the Raptors to the ninth inning where Kyle Gaff retired the Giants in order to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Carter and Theckston led the Raptors with two hits and two RBIs apiece as the visitors held an 11-6 advantage in hits for the game.

Keystone starting pitcher Jesse Arnold (Stuart, FL/Port Saint Lucie) took a no-decision after allowing one run on five hits while striking out five batters in 5.2 innings of work.  Jack Simons (Great Falls, VA/Bullis School) was charged with the loss after yielding one run on two walks in 0.2 innings while Danny O'Neill (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/St. Mary's Rutherford), Hector Vargas (Corona, NY/Forest Hills), Steven Moran (Yonkers, NY/Riverside), Preston Hartvigsen (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual), and Yeison Andujar (Carolina, PR/Programa Educativo Alcance) all saw action on the mound for the Giants.

Eady drove in all three of Keystone's runs and was joined by Lanfranco, Barr, Hunter, Chris Triano (Greenwich, CT/Rye), and Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) with one hit apiece.

Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) had an impressive hitting streak snapped at 26 games as the senior infielder was held hitless for the first time this spring.

Keystone will be right back in action on Wednesday afternoon with another non-conference game at Christy Mathewson Field as Widener University will make the trip to La Plume for the 3:30 p.m. game.
