Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University built a 13-2 lead at halftime of Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game on their way to a 17-6 victory over Keystone College. The Pacers improve to 2-7 this spring and level their conference mark at 2-2 while the Giants fall to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Marywood scored the first seven goals of Saturday's contest and to claim a 7-0 advantage just 8:46 into the contest.
Shatia Silas (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) got Keystone on the board with an unassisted goal at the 18:47 mark of the first half, but the Pacers countered with the game's next four goals to hold an 11-1 lead with 11:32 remaining in the opening stanza.
Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) scored unassisted for the Giants with 7:15 showing on the clock, but the hosts potted the final two goals of the half to hold an 11-goal advantage at the break.
Aileen Yaeger (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) scored 40 seconds into the second half for Keystone and, after Marywood's 14th goal,
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) scored on a free position shot. The Pacers scored the next two goals before Hodanich completed her hat trick with back-to-back goals, the first assisted by
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham), before Marywood capped the scoring with just over two minutes remaining.
Erin Healy led Marywood with three goals and two assists, Sam Bussinelli had three goals and one helper, Natalie Burke contributed two goals and two assists, Caitlin Watson chipped in with a goal and three helpers, while Kylie Winton added a hat trick for the Pacers, who got 10 saves from Lauren Smith in goal.
Hodanich paced Keystone's attack with three goals to go along with five groundballs and four caused turnovers, both of which tied with teammate
Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) for game-highs. Silas added three draw controls while Smith, Hawkins,
Emily Hutton (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union), and
Kelly Smith (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) contributed two caused turnovers apiece.
Marywood held a slim, 24-20 edge in shots for the game while Keystone held a 25-21 advantage in groundballs. The Pacers controlled 17 of the game's 24 draws while the Giants were plus-eight (16-24) in the turnover department.
Keystone will travel to Cabrini College on Wednesday afternoon for the CSAC contest starting at 4:00 p.m. in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
