Late PK Sinks Men’s Soccer in Heartbreaker at TCNJ, 1-0

Lions score games lone goal with just nine seconds remaining in regulation

Ewing, N.J. – The College of New Jersey scored on a penalty kick with just nine seconds remaining in regulation to edge Keystone College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon on the first day of TCNJ's Adidas Classic.  The Lions level their record at 2-2 on the season while the Giants slip to 1-1-1 overall after suffering their first loss of the season.

Joerg Jauk converted the game-winning 12-yard attempt for TCNJ in the 90th minute, who had been unable to solve Keystone goalkeeper Malcom Moreira (Hillside, N.J./St. Benedict Prep) with their first 29 shot attempts on the day.

The Lions controlled play for much of the first half and outshot the Giants 15-3, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play.  Moreira stopped all five shots that TCNJ placed on target in the half while Lions' goalkeeper Jake Nesteruk denied a Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) effort for his only save of the half.

Keystone generated more offense in the second half, attempting seven shots with Nesteruk making a pair of saves on Angel Perez (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael M. Krop) and another on Kouadio.  At the other end, Moreira saved seven shots in the period before TCNJ was awarded the decisive penalty kick at the 89:51 mark.

The Lions held a 30-10 advantage in shots for the game including a 13-4 edge in shots on goal.  Both teams generated three corner kick chances apiece on the day.

Nesteruk picked up the shutout win in goal by making four saves while Moreira's strong, 12-save effort was done in by the late penalty.

Perez led Keystone with five shots while Kouadio took four shots on the day.

The Giants will take on Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday to close out the TCNJ Adidas Classic.
