Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) scored three goals and added an assist while
Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) added a pair of goals and a helper to lead Keystone College to an 8-0 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. The Giants level their record at 3-3 (1-0 CSAC) on the season after recording the team's third consecutive shutout victory.
Bain opened the scoring just 3:06 into Saturday's contest by scoring off an assist from Paulson before Paulson doubled Keystone's lead just 1:12 later by finding the back of the cage off an
Ayana Crawford (Washington, D.C./Elizabeth Seton) assist.
Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) extended the Giants' lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal in the 18
th minute before Bain gave the visitors a four-goal advantage in the 26
th minute with
Rebecca Dempster (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) assisting on Bain's second goal of the afternoon.
April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) got into the act 2:29 into the second half, tallying her first collegiate goal off a Bain assist. Bain then completed her hat trick with an unassisted marker in the 44
th minute to give Keystone a commanding, 6-0 lead.
Paulson netted her second goal of the contest moments later before Crawford tallied the first goal of her collegiate career in the 49
th minute to close out the scoring.
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) made one save in the first half to pick up her third win of the season in the first half while
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) was not forced to make a save in the second half. Llewellyn added a defensive save in the second half to preserve the shutout for Keystone.
De'Ja Martin made 12 saves for Notre Dame, who fell to 1-4 (0-1 CSAC) on the season with the loss. Erika Deppenschmidt and Hanna Moresman added defensive saves in the loss for the Gators.
The Giants held a commanding 26-2 advantage in shots for the game while collecting 13 penalty corner chances to four for the Gators.
Keystone returns to action on Wednesday night with a non-conference game at King's College starting at 7:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre.
