Clarks Summit, Pa. – Keystone College remained perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with an 81-62 victory at Clarks Summit University in a women's basketball contest on Tuesday night. The Giants improve to 4-7 on the year including a 3-0 mark in conference play while the Defenders remain winless in nine contests on the season and in three league matchups.
Keystone, which matched a season-high for points scored in a game, was led by
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton)'s 21 points while
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) tallied a career-best 14 points in the victory.
Dyjae Williams (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds for the Giants, who led wire-to-wire in the victory over Clarks Summit.
Keystone raced out to an 11-3 advantage over the opening 2:48 of Tuesday's contest and held a 21-13 lead before the Defenders closed the first quarter with a 9-2 run to cut their deficit to 23-22 after one quarter of play.
Clarks Summit lurked within a single possession over the first five minutes of the second period before Keystone used a 9-0 spurt to open up a 40-29 cushion. The Giants would take a 40-32 lead into halftime as the Defenders closed the stanza with a three-point play.
Keystone stretched its lead to 52-35 at the 6:13 mark of the third quarter when
Daynara Elysee (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) connected on a three-pointer and the visitors would go on to hold a 14-point advantage heading into the final period, 60-46.
The Giants pushed their cushion to 19 points early in the fourth quarter and Clarks Summit would pull no closer than 12 points the rest of the way as Keystone pulled away with the 19-point victory.
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram) joined Hodanich and Zuchowski in double-figures with 10 points to go along with a game-high four assists for Keystone while
Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) added eight points as the Giants got at least two points from all players to see the floor in the win. Zuchowski also pulled down eight rebounds while Elysee led the squad with three steals.
Keystone hit on 33.7 percent of its field goal attempts for the game including a 25 percent effort from long distance. The Giants were outstanding at the line, making 13 of 14 free throw shots on the night.
Torri Erdman scored a game-high 34 points to go along with 14 rebounds for Clarks Summit while Natalie Tuffy added 11 points. Erdman also blocked six shots for the Defenders, who shot 28.1 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range, and 84.8 percent from the charity stripe in the loss.
The Giants held a commanding, 56-26 advantage in rebounding for the game and were plus-six in the turnover department, forcing the hosts into 18 giveaways while losing the ball12 times.
Keystone will host Marywood University in a CSAC tilt on Thursday starting at 4:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume. The Giants will be looking to avenge a 69-48 non-conference setback suffered to the Pacers on November 20 at the Manhattanville College Battle for the Castle Tournament.
