Immaculata, Pa. – Megan Donegan scored three goals and added an assist to lead host Immaculata University to a 4-2 victory over Keystone College in an important Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey matchup on Tuesday afternoon. The Mighty Macs lift their record to 5-9 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0 while the Giants slide to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC.
Immaculata took a 1-0 lead just 3:03 into Tuesday's contest as Donegan knocked home a centering pass from Willa Thompson to give the hosts the early advantage. The Mighty Macs doubled their lead in the 12
th minute of play as Brittany Richards punched home a rebound with Donegan picking up an assist on the tally.
Immaculata opened up a three-goal advantage in the 22
nd minute when Donegan scored netted her second marker of the afternoon with Nicole Dominick assisting on the goal.
Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) put Keystone on the board with an unassisted tally in the 27
th minute with a shot from the left side just inside the far post. The senior's goal was her third of the season and cut the Giants' deficit to 3-1 heading into halftime.
Immaculata restored its three-goal lead 8:44 into the second half as Donegan completed her hat trick by tipping in a shot off a corner with Shannon Lozier setting up the goal.
Keystone responded in the 51
st minute when
Alex Williams (Elkton, Md./The Tome School) netted her first collegiate goal scoring on a scrum in front of the Mighty Macs cage to make it a 4-2 game.
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) collecting her third assist of the fall on the goal by Williams, which would mark the end of the scoring for the day.
Randie Kuhar made nine saves in net for the Mighty Macs to pick up the win.
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) was charged with the loss for Keystone after surrendering two goals and making three saves in the first 11:24 of the contest before being replaced by
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham), who stopped six of the eight shots she faced in the final 58:36 of the contest.
Immaculata held a narrow 16-15 edge in shots for the game including a 13-11 lead in shots on target. The Mighty Macs also out-cornered the Giants 8-7 on the day.
Keystone will host Notre Dame of Maryland University in a CSAC game starting at 1:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming/Family Weekend in La Plume.
