La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College earned a Colonial States Athletic Conference victory on Saturday while splitting a pair of three-set decision in a home tri-match volleyball match in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Giants (8-12, 6-3 CSAC) swept Immaculata University in Saturday's opener before falling to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in the nightcap.
Match 1 vs. Immaculata
In Saturday's opening match against Immaculata (7-9, 5-3 CSAC), Keystone took the early advantage with a hard-fought 25-22 decision in the opening set before claiming a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 decision in the second game. The Giants closed out their seventh sweep of the fall and second three-set win with a 25-20 victory in the third frame.
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) powered a balanced Keystone attack that saw five players record at least five kills with a match-high nine kills in the match.
Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) put down seven kills,
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) had six kills apiece, and
Shannon Monahan (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) put down five kills for the Giants, who hit .170 as a team in the victory.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) led all players with 32 assists while
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) picked up a match-best 16 digs. Beatty added eight digs for the Giants while Larkin paced the squad with four service aces.
Hardy was strong at the net for the hosts, leading all players with four blocks in the win.
Arden Vizzard led Immaculata with eight kills and 15 digs while Olivia Zdradzinski picked up a team-best 14 digs for the Mighty Macs in the loss. The visitors hit -.019 in the match.
Match 2 vs. Pitt-Bradford
In Saturday's second contest against Pitt-Bradford (10-12), the Panthers won the opening frame 25-18 before taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 decision in the second set. Pitt-Bradford closed out its second sweep of the day with a 25-19 win in the third game.
Emily Cleveland led all players with 11 kills in the match while Ally Easton added 10 kills for the Panthers, who hit .225 in the contest.
Payton Orzech put up 30 assists and Laura Hildebrand picked up 11 digs to lead Pitt-Bradford in the win.
Ortiz led Keystone with seven kills, Beatty had six kills, and Bowen chipped in with five kills and a team-leading 23 assists for the Giants, who hit .042 as a team in the loss.
Homfeld led all players with 14 digs in the match while Hardy added three more blocks for the hosts.
