La Plume, Pa. – Rosemont College outscored Keystone College 39-16 in the second half of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball to pull away with a 77-57 victory in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Ravens, who were paced by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter's 46-point effort, improve to 6-15 on the year while dropping the Giants record to 5-16. Rosemont, Keystone, and Notre Dame of Maryland University now sit in a three-way tie for eighth place in the CSAC with 4-8 records in league play.
Rosemont scored the first eight points of Saturday's game before Keystone used an 8-2 run to pull to within two points. The Ravens would stay in front and lead by as many as seven points before holding a 20-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Rosemont pushed its lead to 31-19 at the 5:39 mark of the second period before the Giants reeled off 18 straight points to claim a 37-31 advantage with 2:24 left in the first half. The Ravens pulled to within a point before
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) scored on a layup just before halftime to give Keystone a 41-38 lead at the intermission.
Hodanich paced Keystone with 11 first half points,
Catia Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Bel Air) netted seven points, and
Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) and
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) chipped in with six points apiece.
Brianna Nolen (Union Bridge, Md./Walkersville) corralled six rebounds for the Giants, who connected on 48.6 percent of their attempts from the floor in opening two quarters including a blazing, 12-18 showing in the second period. The hosts also went 4-11 from three-point range.
Naone-Carter led all scorers in the first half with 25 points while Shirle Brown pulled down six rebounds for the Ravens, who shot 39.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Sugalski scored the first two points of the third quarter, but Rosemont used a 10-0 spurt to claim a 52-44 advantage with 4:26 left in the stanza. The visitors led by as many as 12 points before taking a 64-53 lead into the fourth period.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Ravens, who outscored the Giants 13-4 in the final 10 minutes of regulation, holding the hosts to just a pair of field goals as Rosemont avenged a 64-53 setback suffered to Keystone on December 3.
Naone-Carter went 18-28 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and was 8-12 from the free throw line in her huge offensive day while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Jasmyn Parker added 11 points and five assists for Rosemont while Brown tied for a game-high with 11 rebounds. The visitors, who forced the Giants into 25 turnovers, shot 43.8 percent from the field for the game while going 36.4 percent from long range and 77.3 percent from the free throw line.
Hodanich finished with team-highs of 15 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots to go along with four steals for Keystone. Sugalski added nine points and eight boards while Zuchowski and
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram) added eight points each.
Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./James M. Coughlin) tied for a game-high with five assists while collecting four steals for the Giants, who went 35.9 percent from the field on the day including a 27..8 percent effort from downtown while making 60 percent of their free throw attempts.
The hosts held a narrow, 42-40 edge in rebounding for the game.
Keystone will look to snap an eight-game losing skid on Wednesday night when it hosts local conference rival Clarks Summit University at 6:00 p.m. The game is part of the Giants' Think Pink Night to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
