Keystone Cruises to 23-8 Victory at Rosemont

Giants set a school record for goals scored in a game in CSAC win

Rosemont, Pa. – Keystone College set a new program record for goals scored in a game on Tuesday afternoon while cruising to a 23-8 victory at Rosemont College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game.  The Giants improve to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play while the Ravens remain winless in 10 matches this spring (0-6 CSAC).

Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) tied a program record with nine goals in the victory while Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) recorded six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Giants' attack.

Rosemont opened the scoring just 22 seconds into Tuesday's contest before Robinson equalized for Keystone at the 27:16 mark of the first half.  The Ravens went back in front before Robinson made it a 2-2 game with her second unassisted tally of the day.

Hawkins gave the Giants their first lead of the day by converting a free-position shot with 19:22 remaining in the opening stanza and added her second goal of the game 33 seconds later off an assist from Abby Shupp (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton) to give the visitors a 4-2 advantage.

After a Rosemont tally, Keystone went on an 8-1 run to open up a 12-4 lead.  Hawkins scored three times while Robinson, April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin), Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey), Ayana Crawford (Washington, D.C./Elizabeth Seton), and Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) all found twine for the Giants in the burst.

The Ravens halted the visitor's run with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half before Robinson tallied her fourth goal of the game to give Keystone a 13-5 lead.  Rosemont got one back before the break to cut the Giants' advantage to seven goals at halftime.

Rosemont scored the first goal of the second half just under a minute into the period, but Keystone put the game out of reach by tallying the next five goals to claim an 18-7 lead.  After a tally by the Ravens at the 17:55 mark, the Giants scored five times in the final 12:45 to close out the top offensive performance in program history.

Crawford (3 goals), Zuchowski (2 goals, 1 assist), and Llewellyn (1 goal, 2 assists) added three points apiece for the Giants.  Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) scored twice and Bain finished with a goal and an assist for the visitors, who also got a tally from Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin).

Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) three saves to pick up the win for Keystone, who outshot Rosemont by a 47-12 margin while holding a 25-7 lead in groundballs.  The Giants also claimed a 21-12 edge in draw controls for the contest.

Robinson and Llewellyn tied for a game-high with five groundballs apiece while Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) scooped up four groundballs in the contest.  Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) and Hodanich had three caused turnovers apiece while Robinson led all players with six draw controls.

Jen South scored four goals to lead Rosemont's attack while Melissa Lynch added three assists. Kiana Davis made 16 saves in goal for the Ravens in the loss.

Keystone will return to action next Tuesday with another important CSAC game at Cedar Crest College.  Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m. at Parkland High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
