Allentown, Pa. – Keystone College's women' lacrosse team inched closer to its first-ever Colonial States Athletic Conference playoff berth on Tuesday with a 15-5 victory over Cedar Crest College in a game played at Parkland High School. The Giants leveled their overall record at 6-6 while moving to 4-4 in conference play while setting a new program record for both overall and conference wins in a season.
Goals by
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) and
Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) gave Keystone a 2-0 advantage 3:39 into Tuesday's contest before Cedar Crest (0-9, 0-6 CSAC) got on the board at the 25:56 mark. Hodanich responded with her second goal of the game off an
Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) assist to start a 6-0 run by the Giants that gave the visitors an 8-1 advantage with 11:20 remaining in the first half.
Hodanich and Robinson both scored twice during the run while
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) and
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) also found twine as the Giants built the seven-goal advantage.
After the Falcons' second goal of the game, Robinson and
Abby Shupp (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton) netted back-to-back goals to give Keystone a 10-2 lead and the Giants would hold an 11-3 advantage at halftime as both sides tallied goals in the final minute of the opening stanza.
Robinson and Hodanich had goals to open the second half to give the Giants a 13-3 lead before the Falcons got one back with 8:41 remaining. Robinson then sandwiched a pair of tallies around Cedar Crest's fifth goal in the final four minutes to close out the scoring.
Robinson finished with a game-high nine points on eight goals and one assist while Hodanich netted four goals for Keystone. Zuchowski also a multi-point game with a goal and an assist for the Giants, who held a 39-13 advantage in shots, a 14-13 edge in groundballs, and a 13-8 lead in draw controls.
Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) picked up the win in goal for Keystone, making three saves as the Giants matched a program-best for fewest goals allowed against in a game.
Hodanich and Llewellyn had three groundballs and two caused turnovers apiece while Bain also caused a pair of turnovers. Robinson led all players with four draw controls on the afternoon.
Kristen Payes made 17 saves in net for the Falcons, who got a team-best two goals from Regina Gill.
Keystone will close out the regular season on Saturday with a home game against Immaculata University starting at 4:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
