Local head golf pro brings extensive collegiate coaching experience to new program

La Plume, Pa. – Joseph Ambrose has been named Keystone College's first-ever head women's golf coach according to an announcement made today by Dr. Matthew Grimaldi, Director of Athletics.  Ambrose brings nearly two decades of professional golf coaching to the Giants' newest varsity program and has also spend the last 10 years as the head coach of Kutztown University's women's bowling program.

Women's golf was recently added at Keystone's 21st varsity sport and will begin competition in the 2017-18 year.

Ambrose, who comes to Keystone from his position as the head golf professional at Paupack Hills Golf and Country Club, is no stranger to starting new collegiate programs, having successfully launched Kutztown University's NCAA varsity women's bowling team.

An extremely experienced golf instructor, Ambrose has been the head golf professional at Paupack Hills in Greentown, Pennsylvania since September of 2012 where he has developed programs to instruct players of all levels in addition to overseeing the golf course and pro shop while conducting successful competitions as the facility.

Prior to his time at Paupack, Ambrose was the head golf professional at High Point Golf Club in Montague, New Jersey for the 2012 season.

Ambrose began his golf instructional career as an assistant golf professional at Paupack Hill from 2001-2005 before he moved on to the same position at Lake Mohawk Golf Club in Montague, New Jersey, a position he held from 2005-2011.

In addition to his golfing experience, Ambrose has over 32 years of experience as a bowling instructor, most notably as the head coach at Kutztown.  Ambrose started the Golden Bears' NCAA women's bowling team in 2007 and has led Kutztown into the top-10 of the national rankings including appearances in the national championships in 2010 and 2011.

At Kutztown, Ambrose, who has been a PBA bowling professional since 1980, has organized and managed the largest NCAA bowling tournament in the country each year.

Ambrose holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from East Stroudsburg University and also graduated as a PGA Professional Class A from the PGA/PGM Professional Golf Management Program in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
