Women’s Lacrosse Tripped Up at Neumann

Knights outscore Giants 8-2 in second half to pull away with CSAC win

Aston, Pa. – After holding a three-goal edge at halftime of Wednesday's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game, Neumann University outscored visiting Keystone College 8-2 in the second half to pull away with an 18-7 victory.  The Knights boost their record to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in conference action while the Giants slip to 4-5 this spring and 2-3 in the CSAC.
 
Back-to-back goals from Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) and Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) gave Keystone a 2-0 lead four and half minutes into Wednesday's contest before Neumann tied the contest with a pair of goals of its own.  Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) put the Giants back in front with a goal before the Knights sandwiched a pair of markers around an April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) marker to make it a 4-4 game with 15:39 left in the first half.
 
Neumann took its first lead of the game, 5-4, at the 13:25 mark and added another tally before Smith converted a free-position shot to cut Keystone's deficit to 6-5.  The hosts answered with the next two goals before Hawkins scored her second goal of the game with 45 seconds left on the clock.  The Knights would hold a 9-6 advantage at halftime after getting a tally with just 22 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
 
The host scored the first four goal of the second half to open up a 13-6 advantage before Zuchowski snapped Neumann's run with her second goal of the afternoon with 18:20 remaining in the second half.
 
The Knights scored the next two goals of the contest to build a 15-8 before Zuchowski completed her hat trick at the 3:22 mark.  The hosts closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final 2:14.
 
Shae Risley recorded a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead Neumann's attack while Kaitlyn Conrad added three goals and one helper.  Taylor Klever (3 goals) and Brittany Cassidy (2 goals, 1 assist) chipped in with three points apiece for the Knights, who held a 33-31 edge in shots for the game and a 37-28 advantage in groundballs.

Neumann goalie Gabby Curry made a game-high 17 saves to pick up the win.
 
Zuchowski (3 goals), Hawkins (2 goals, 1 assist), and Smith (1 goal, 2 assists) had three points apiece to pace Keystone's offense.  Robinson added a goal and an assist to go along with team-bests of eight draw controls and four caused turnovers while picking up seven groundballs on the day. 
 
Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) made 13 saves in the loss while scooping up a team-high nine groundballs.  Kelly Smith (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) added a pair of caused turnovers for the Giants, who held a 16-11 lead in draw controls for the contest.
 
Keystone will host Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon in a CSAC matchup starting at 1:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
