Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) scored 100
th goal of her collegiate career on Saturday afternoon as Keystone College dropped a 16-6 decision to Cabrini University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 10-3 on the season including a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play while the Giants slide to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the CSAC.
Hawkins became the first player in Keystone history to reach the 100-goal milestone by scoring at the 16:04 mark of the second half. The junior midfielder finished the day with a team-best three points in the loss to the Cavaliers.
Cabrini jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the first 14 minutes of the first half of Saturday afternoon's contest before Keystone clamped down defensively, holding the Cavaliers scoreless over the final 16:08 of the period.
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) put Keystone on the board at the 9:16 mark of the first half by scoring off a feed from
Kelly Smith (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) before an unassisted tally by
Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) with just over five minutes left in the period cut the host's deficit to 8-2 at halftime.
Cabrini netted the first two goals of the second half before
Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) scored the first goal of her collegiate career at the 23:42 mark of the second half to make it a 10-3 game. After another tally by the visitors, Hawkins netted her milestone goal to cut Keystone's deficit to 11-4, but the Cavaliers got the goal back a minute later.
Hawkins scored her second goal of the day at the 14:24 mark to pull the Giants to within seven goals, but Cabrini put the game away by netting four of the game's final five markers.
Sasha Wozniak recorded a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead the Cavaliers' attack while Avery Murphy (3 goals, 1 assist) and Allie Vallen (2 goals, 2 assists) added four points in the victory.
Megan Barlow picked up the win in goal for Cabrini after making seven saves in 32:12 of action, Devon Scharf added two saves, and Noelia Ramirez turned aside one shot on the day.
Zuchowski had a pair of goals for Keystone, who received a game-high 18 saves from
Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional). Hawkins and Robinson tied for the team-lead with four draw controls apiece with Robinson pacing the squad with four groundballs. Robinson and
April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) collected three caused turnovers apiece in the loss.
For the game, Cabrini outshot the Giants by a 44-18 margin while holding a 35-20 advantage in groundballs. The Cavaliers also claimed a 14-10 edge in draw controls on the afternoon.
Keystone will travel to Rosemont College on Tuesday afternoon for a CSAC matchup starting at 4:00 p.m. in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.
