Allentown, Pa. – Cedar Crest College swept a Colonial States Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from visiting Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons, who won the first game 8-1 before taking the nightcap 10-6, improve to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the CSAC. The Giants now sit at 5-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Game 1
In Saturday's first game, Cedar Crest took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single before doubling its lead the following inning on a RBI double.
Keystone got a run back in the top of the third inning on a fielders' choice by
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) that brought home
Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), but the Falcons got a pair of RBI base hits in their half of the inning to claim a 4-1 lead.
Cedar Crest tacked on a pair of runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to close out the scoring.
Laura Rau held the Giants to just three singles in the game, tossing a complete game with an unearned run against while striking out four batters.
Molly Schnaubelt went 4-4 with four RBI while Courtney Constable added three hits for Cedar Crest, who outhit Keystone 16-3 in the contest.
Keystone starter
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) was charged with five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three batters in four innings in the circle.
Abby Aniska (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) pitched the final two innings and yielded two runs on six hits.
Kaylee Hartman (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional),
Emily Long (Shamokin, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional), and
Hunter Schantz (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) accounted for the Giants' three hits in the opener.
Game 2
In the nightcap, Cedar Crest jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning by scoring four runs on six hits in their first trip to the plate.
Keystone got on the board in the top of the second inning when
Kassadi Woods (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) drove in
Antonette Scialpi (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) with a sacrifice fly, but the Falcons made it a 6-1 game in the bottom half of the frame on a two-run home run from Rau.
The Giants battled back into the game by scoring three runs on four hits in the visitors third. Long hit an RBI double before Lloyd and Scialpi connected on RBI base hits to cut the visitor's deficit to 6-4.
Cedar Crest scored a run in the home third and two more in the fourth inning to claim an 9-4 advantage before Keystone pulled back to within two runs by plating a pair of runners in the top of the fifth inning. Lloyd came home on a Scialpi groundout before Schantz drove in
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) with a single.
The Falcons closed out the scoring on an RBI double from Schnaubelt in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Kendra Pekurny picked up the win after allowing six runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in six innings. Breanna Young retired the Giants in order in the seventh inning to close out the game.
Cedar Crest, who held a 21-11 advantage in hits in the nightcap, got three hits apiece from five different players and were led by Rau's four-RBI effort.
Jordan Hodle (Plymouth, Pa./Lake-Lehman) suffered the loss in a complete game effort while picking up three strikeouts.
Hartman, Lloyd, Scialpi, and Schantz had two hits apiece for the Giants in the nightcap.

Keystone is scheduled to host King's College on Monday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. at Edmunds Field in La Plume.
