Top-seeded Giants Set to Open CSAC Playoff Tournament

Keystone will host first round game on Wednesday before tournament moves to PNC Field Friday-Saturday

Program

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College will open its postseason quest for a ninth straight Colonial States Athletic Conference championship on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy University in the first round of the double-elimination conference tournament.  First pitch of the postseason contest between the top-seeded Giants and fourth-seeded Griffins is set for 3:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume.

#2 Immaculata University will host #3 Neumann University in the other first round game of the tournament on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

Following Wednesday's games, the double-elimination tournament moves to PNC Field in Moosic, Pa. on Friday and Saturday where the 2017 CSAC champion will be crowned with an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament going to the winner.

Keystone enters the postseason with a 28-12 overall record and earned the top seed with a 17-4 record in conference play.  The Giants have won all eight CSAC titles since joining the conference for the 2009 season and have not lost a conference playoff game in that stretch, posting a remarkable 24-0 CSAC playoff record.

Keystone will put that winning streak on the line as it seeks its 10th straight appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament and 12th consecutive overall conference title dating back to the Giants' tenure as a member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Immaculata, last year's CSAC runner-up, claimed the #2 seed after going 23-10 (16-5 CSAC) during the regular season while Neumann is the #3 seed, entering the postseason with a 20-16 (14-7 CSAC) mark.  Gwynedd Mercy, who is the #4 seed, sports a 23-14-1 (13-8 CSAC) record this spring.

Keystone went 6-3 against the opponents in the CSAC postseason field, taking two of three games in the regular season series with all three teams.  The Giants went 3-0 in the nine-inning games while splitting the doubleheaders with Immaculata, Neumann, and Gwynedd Mercy.

Keystone enters the postseason tournament armed with three major CSAC award winners: Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame ) (Pitcher of the Year), Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) (Rookie of the Year), and Jamie Shevchik (Coach of the Year) and 11 All-CSAC performers including First Team honorees Terzi, Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie), Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), and Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe).

Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis), Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area), Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), Austin Chaszar (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional), and Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) all captured Second Team All-CSAC accolades while Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and Yeison Andujar (San Juan, P.R./Programa Educativo Alcance) were Honorable Mention All-CSAC picks for the Giants.

There will be no admission fee for any games during the 2017 CSAC Baseball Championships, including contests at PNC Field.  Concession stands will be open at PNC Field for all spectators.
