La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College scored a pair of goals in the opening five minutes of Tuesday afternoon's non-conference women's soccer game against SUNY-Delhi and never looked back on its way to a 6-1 victory. The Giants improve to 1-3-1 on the season with their first win of the season while the Broncos slip to 2-2 overall.
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, N.Y./New Paltz) led the Giants with five points while tying a single-game program record with three assists to go along with one goal. Moranski also had three assists against Cairn University during her junior year while Samantha Littleford accomplished the feat against Cazenovia College in 2013.
Keystone took control of the game by scoring twice in the first 4:49 of Tuesday's contest. Moranski opened the scoring just 2:05 into the contest by one-touching home a restart served into the box by
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, Md./Aberdeen) for her second goal of the season.
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) pushed the Giants' advantage to 2-0 just over two and half minutes later by scoring from close range after taking a cross from
Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) for her team-leading fourth tally of the year.
Dehli got on the board in the ninth minute after being awarded a penalty kick when the hosts were whistled for a handball in their own 18-yard box. Liana Garry stepped up to the spot and converted the 12-yard attempt to cut the Broncos' deficit to 2-1.
Keystone restored its two-goal advantage in the 39
th minute when
Jayleen Galeno (Passaic, N.J./Scranton) scored her first collegiate goal by depositing the ball into a vacant net after Moranski's initial shot was saved.
The Giants would hold the 3-1 advantage at halftime while outshooting the Broncos 16-3 over the opening 45 minutes of play.
Amber Smith (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) netted her first two goals of the season in a span of just 1:32 in the second half to push Keystone's lead to 5-1. The sophomore headed in a cross from
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) in the 60
th minute before netting her second marker of the contest by knocking home a rebound after Moranski's shot hit the post.
Richner closed out the scoring in the 89
th minute by firing a shot just inside the far post from the left side after taking a thru-ball from Moranski, who notched her third assist of the game to tie a single-game program record on Richner's first goal of the season.
Haley Gobla (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) picked up the win in goal in her first collegiate start in goal for Keystone, playing the first half without being forced to make a save.
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) took over goalkeeping duties to start the second half and made one stop in 20:42 before giving way to
Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne), who also made one stop in the final 24:18 to preserve the shutout.
Jacqueline Slentz made 11 saves in a losing effort in net for the Broncos.
The Giants held a commanding 34-9 advantage in shots for the game while placing 18 efforts on goal to just three for Delhi. The hosts also had four corner kick opportunities to zero for the Broncos.
Keystone will open Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Rosemont College. Kickoff between the Giants and Ravens is set for 1:00 p.m. in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.
