Daniel Zuniga (Lakeland, Fla./McKeel Academy) scored a pair of goals and
Malcom Moreira (Hillside, N.J./St. Benedict Prep) earned his third shutout of the season in goal as Keystone College's men's soccer team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over visiting Clarks Summit University. The Giants improve to 6-3 (1-0 CSAC) on the season while the Defenders slip to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.
After several good chances in the opening 15 minutes of Wednesday contest, Keystone broke through with the game's first goal in the 16
th minute when Zuniga headed in a restart served in by
Abreham Kittel (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson), who picked up his third assist of the season on the tally.
The Giants held the 1-0 edge at halftime while outshooting Clarks Summit by a commanding, 14-3 mark, but the hosts only placed four of those attempts on frame.
Keystone doubled its lead just 1:36 into the second half as Zuniga netted his second goal of the game and fourth of the season by touching home a loose ball out of a scramble in front of the Defenders' goal with
Khadim Thiam (New York, N.Y./Washington Irving) i picking up his second assist of the season on the goal.
Carlos Bonilla (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) made it a 3-0 game in the 58
th minute by lacing a shot from 16 yards out following an indirect restart in the box with
Rolando Rodriguez (Linden, N.J./Linden) providing the assists. Bonilla's tally was his second of the fall while Rodriguez's helper was his team-leading fourth of the year.
Moreira three saves to record the clean sheet which was the fourth overall for the Giants this fall. Evan Rarick made seven stops in net for Clarks Summit.
Keystone finished the evening with a 24-7 advantage in shots along with a 10-3 lead in shots on goal. The Giants also created six corner kick opportunities while preventing the Defenders from having any chances from the end-line.
Keystone will travel to Neumann University on Saturday for a CSAC matchup scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Aston, Pennsylvania.
