Aston, Pa. – Neumann University scored midway through the first half of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer game against Keystone College and added two more second half goals to post a 3-1 victory over the Giants. The Knights improve to 3-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play with the win while Keystone sees its record drop to 4-5-1 this fall and 3-2 in league contests.
Neumann took a 1-0 lead in the 20
th minute of Saturday's contest when Grace Stauffer found the back of the net after taking a pass from Jamie King. Both sides had several good opportunities over the final 25 minutes of the first half, but neither was able to cash in as the Knights held the one-goal advantage at halftime.
Neumann doubled up Keystone in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, 10-5.
Opportunities continued to come and pass for both teams over the first 25 minutes of the second half before Ashley Francis tallied an insurance goal for the Knights in the 70
th minute. Anna Attardi fed a corner kick to Taylor Garman, who slipped a pass through several defenders to Francis, who knocked the ball into the empty net to give Neumann a 2-0 lead.
Attardi tallied the Knights' third goal in the 82
nd minute by scoring directly off of a corner kick.
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, N.Y./New Paltz) ended Neumann's shutout bid in the 83
rd minute with an unassisted goal, her fourth of the season, to make it a 3-1 game.
Brittany Cullison picked up the win in goal for the Knights with a six-save performance while Keystone's
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) suffered the loss despite making a game-high eight saves.
Neumann finished the day with a 23-11 advantage in shots including an 11-7 edge in shots on goal. The Giants held a slim, 8-6 lead in corner kick chances for the game.
Keystone will return home on Wednesday evening to host Centenary University in a CSAC matchup scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
