The Keystone College wrestling team returns to the mats this Sunday, January 28, to compete in the John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The Giants take on R.I.T. at 11 am, Lackawanna College at 1 p.m., and Washington & Jefferson at 3:00 p.m.
Keystone update: The Giants are coming off a 46-6 loss to The University of Scranton on Saturday, January 20, at the Long Center in Scranton. Freshman
Colby Bronzburg (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) recorded Keystone's lone win in the team competition, pinning Jake Thomson at the 1:43 mark of the first period in the 125-pound weight class. With the win, Bronzburg improved to 15-5 on the season. It was also his seventh pin, the second-most on the team behind freshman
Paul Miller (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley)'s total of 10. In an exhibition bout in the 149-pound weight class, freshman
Tahron Sheffield (Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) posted a 17-7 major decision against Kevin Pompilo. Sheffield is now 2-3 at 149 pounds and 4-8 overall this year.
Individual notes: Bronzburg and Miller are tied for the team-lead in wins with 15 apiece. Freshmen
Thomas Michaels (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) and Sheffield are next with six and four, respectively.
Opponent notes: R.I.T. enters Sunday matches with a 6-6 mark, Lackawanna, a first-year program, is 0-1, while W&J is 6-7.
Next up: Keystone will travel to Williamsport on Sunday, February 11, to take on the Warriors of Lycoming College beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Giants will close out the regular-season on Saturday, February 16, against King's College in the Cross-County Challenge in Wilkes-Barre. Keystone will also compete in the NCAA regionals on Saturday and Sunday, February 24-25.
