Freshman Paige Mokychic continues to swing a hot bat for the Keystone College softball team.
And even though the Giants dropped games today to The College of New Jersey, 7-3, and Salisbury, 4-0, Mokychic belted out three more hits to raise her team-leading batting average to .545.
Against The College of New Jersey, Mokychic belted a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Keystone an early 1-0 lead, then drove in another run by drawing a walk with the bases loaded during a two-run rally in the fifth. She also singled to lead-off the seventh inning.
The Giants other four hits against TCNJ were recorded by seniors
Kaylee Hartman (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and juniors
Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge).
Sophomore Megan Mayernik led TCNJ, now 3-0, with four hits and freshman Allie Immerso and senior Madison Levine added a pair. The Lions broke a 1-1 tie with a 5-run rally in the fifth and added another run in the sixth.
Mokychic doubled against Salisbury for one of Keystone's three hits in the final game of the four-game weekend trip. Â Â The Giants' other two hits were by Hughes and Fitch.
The Sea Gulls, now 2-1, scored three times in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by senior Annie Pietanza and an RBI double by sophomore Emily Allen. Senior LeAnne Collins led Salisbury with three hits and sophomore Dakotah Fraley drove in run to support winning pitcher Shannon Powell, who went the distance and struck out three to improve her record to 1-1.
