Hawkins, Hodanich, Robinson spark Giants past Lancaster Bible Friday

Hodanich now five points away from becoming second Keystone player to score 100 career points

La PLUME, Pa.—Seniors Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) and Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) combined for nine goals and two assists and sophomore Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) finished with three goals and four assists to lead Keystone College to an 18-12 victory over Lancaster Bible College in women's lacrosse non-conference action Friday afternoon.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Keystone, which improved to 2-4 on the season.  The Giants also received three goals from junior Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) and sophomore April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) and freshmen Alex Williams (Elkton, Md./The Tome School) and Taylor Cercone (Dallas, Pa./Lake-Lehman) chipped in a goal apiece.

Lancaster Bible, which fell to 1-7 on the season, was led by junior Raegan Horst with four goals and two assists and senior Myranda Kemrer contributed three goals and three assists.  Junior Hannah Thompson and freshman Kaitlyn Myers scored two goals apiece for the Chargers, who fell behind 12-4 at intermission before closing the gap to five three times in the second half.

Hodanich and Hawkins scored five goals in the opening 17 minutes of the first half as the Giants burst out to a 10-1 lead and appeared to have the game well in hand.  The Chargers battled back, closing the gap to 12-4 by intermission, and opened the second half with three straight goals to slice Keystone's lead to five, 12-7.

The Giants were then able to swing the momentum back in their favor as Smith sandwiched two goals around a goal by Horst and Hodanich answered with a goal on a play set up by Robinson to give the Giants a 15-8 lead.  After Lancaster Bible cut the margin down to five on goals by Kemrer and Myers, Robinson went the length of the field to score an unassisted goal before setting up a goal by Cercone to keep Keystone's lead at seven, 17-10.

The key to today's win by the Giants' ability to dominate the draw controls.  Keystone held a 21-11 advantage, thanks largely to the play of Hawkins and Robinson, who finished with eight apiece.
The Giants also held a 47-31 advantage in shots and a 10-4 margin in free-position shots.

Keystone sophomore goalkeeper Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) made 10 saves, including four off of free position shots, while Lancaster Bible's Nicoletti Statuti finished with a game-high 15.

The Giants will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference action next Wednesday, April 4, at home against Rosemont College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
