Women’s Lacrosse Enjoys 11-10 Win at Lancaster Bible to Open 2019

LANCASTER, Pa. - Despite trailing 8-4 in the second half, the Keystone College women's lacrosse team battled back and scored seven times in the final 21 minutes action to earn the come-from-behind 11-10 victory at Lancaster Bible College on Saturday to begin the 2019 season.

The Giants move to 1-0 on the young season and will host Delaware Valley University on Saturday, March 2 at 4 p.m. in the team's home opener. The Chargers fall to 0-2 on the year.

Leading all scorers was senior Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) with five goals while senior Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) followed with three scores. Junior Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) tallied two markers and senior Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) scored once.

Junior Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) earned the victory in between the pipes, making nine stops.

Cortes led the Giants with seven shots while Smith, Cortes, junior April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) and sophomore Jackie Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) all notched three ground balls apiece.

The contest was tied at 2-2 in the first thanks to a pair of goals from Smith. However, the Chargers went ahead 5-2 before Smith tallied her third goal of the opening period as Keystone trailed at half, 5-3.

Following a Lancaster Bible goal with 26:21 in the second half, the Giants trailed 8-4. But Keystone went on a scoring barrage in the final 21 minutes of play, outscoring the Chargers 7-2 down the stretch to take the road win.
