La PLUME, Pa. – Senior
Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) and junior
Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) both scored five goals each as the Keystone College women's lacrosse team enjoyed a 19-15 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland on Senior Day in CSAC action on Saturday.
Prior to the contest, the program honored Smith,
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge),
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey),
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) and
Emily Hutton (North Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union).
With the win, the Giants improve to 6-3 (5-0 CSAC) and will head to Cedar Crest on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. The Gators drop to 4-4 (2-2 CSAC) with the loss.
Keystone is in sole possession of first place in the league, with the second half of the conference season left to play.
Keystone jumped out to a 7-2 lead and held a 10-6 edge going into halftime. The Gators cut that lead down to two, 10-8, in the opening minutes of the second half.
Notre Dame got within one, 12-11, with 20:38 remaining, but the Giants held off the surge and responded for the key conference win.
Robinson finished with five goals and five helpers for 10 points and chipped in seven ground balls, 10 draw controls and three caused turnovers. Smith tallied five goals and one assist.
Cortes and Bain both tallied two goals each; with Bain notching a game-high 12 draw controls. Juniors
April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) and
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) both finished with two goals and sophomore
Jackie Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) provided one goal. Junior
Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) dished out one assist.
Junior
Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) earned the victory in between the pipes and finished with 10 saves. Leenas is now 16 saves away from 400 in her career.
For the Gators, Megan Morales tallied a game-high seven goals while keeper Calenna Cauley made 13 saves.
