Soaring Eagles Soar Past Giants In Overtime

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College men's soccer team suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell to Elmira College 3-2 in overtime Wednesday afternoon.

Keystone would get on the board first following an own goal from Elmira in the 18th minute. At the 20th minute, the Giants were issued a penalty kick where junior forward Axel Gonzalez (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) would score on the penalty shot to put the Giants up 2-0.

The Soaring Eagles were able to cut the deficit in half as Mark Brado Jr. would find the back of the net in the 34th minute off an assist from Luke LeClair.

In the second half, both Elmira and Keystone played competitive defense until in the 85th minute, Elmira's Gavin Wise would score the game-tying goal to send the match into overtime. Tony Valencia was credited with assist.

During the overtime period, Elmira was given a corner kick. Following the corner kick, Keystone was trying to clear the ball out of enemy territory. However, the ball rebounded off a Keystone player and went into the net for the game sealing goal for the Soaring Eagles.

Elmira outshot Keystone 8-6. For the Giants, Morade Mama (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) led the team with three shots in the match. Two of those shots were on goal. On the opponents' side, Wise and Junior Coulibaly each had two shots for the visitors. Elmira's goalkeeper Giovanni Garufi had two saves. The Soaring Eagles also had the advantage on corners, 6-2. Elmira was issued three yellow cards in this afternoon's match while Keystone was issued two.

What's Next

With the loss, the Giants fall to 2-1-1 and will gear up for their first away match of the 2021 campaign on Sept. 11 as they head down the road to Scranton, Pennsylvania to take on Marywood University at 4 p.m.
