Football Week Eight Preview: Castleton

Kickoff on Saturday is at 12 p.m.

La PLUME, Pa. - Coming off its first-ever win in program history, the Keystone College football team returns home to host Castleton University on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) contest. 

Saturday's contest also marks Faculty & Staff Appreciation as well as Cancer Awareness. 

Last Week

The Giants (1-6, 1-2 ECFC) enjoyed the program's first-ever victory with last Saturday's 41-39 road win at Anna Maria. The Spartans (3-4, 2-1 ECFC) defeated SUNY Maritime 36-33. 

ECFC Honors 

For Keystone, Jayson Nami (Freehold Township, N.J./Freehold Township) earned Special Teams Player of the Week after his 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, helping propel the Giants past the Amcats. 

As for Castleton, Kevin McDonough was named Defensive Player of the Week while Jackson Brand earned Co-Rookie of the Week accolades.  

McDonough collected 10 tackles and sealed the Spartan win with an interception with 10 seconds left. Brand hauled in a 24-yard touchdown with 48 ticks left against Maritime. 

Keystone

The Giants totaled 474 yards against Anna Maria, as Mujaheed Muhammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) rushed for a game-high 125 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns – giving him 14 career TDs. Tom Roach (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) went 15-of-25 for 243 yards passing and two scores, finding Jorden Cook (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) and Javier Tazza (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City)

Joe Manfred hauled in his fourth INT of the season while Sean Pettway (Ellenville, N.Y./Ellenville) led Keystone with eight tackles. Josue Hernandez (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) went 2-for-2 on field goals and 5-of-5 on extra points. 

Castleton

The Spartans stormed back against Maritime with a 29-point fourth quarter to claim a 36-33 win last week.  

Castleton features a three-headed rushing attack with Devin Wollner, Lucas Morse, and Simon Davis, Jr. The trio combined for six TDs, 135 carries and 587 yards. 

Evan Smith is 104-for-155 with 1,277 yards passing and 12 touchdowns this year. Smith has four favorite targets in Jackson Brand, Saijon McIntosh, Caezar Williams, and Evan Keegan. Brand leads the receiving corps with 18 catches, 269 yards and four scores. 

Defensively, McDonough leads the Spartans with 58 total tackles while Jacob Griggs has chipped in 52 stops. Noah Crossman is 2-of-4 on field goals this year, going 2-of-3 from 30-39 yards.

Keystone will be off for its bye week while Castleton hosts Alfred State on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m.
