CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The No. 2 seed Keystone College Giants will face the No. 1 seed Wilson College Phoenix in the 2022 Colonial States Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship.
The championship game is set for Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
This is the third time that both the Giants and Phoenix will meet in the championship match. The Giants defeated the Phoenix 2-0 in 2018 for their first conference championship in program history.
Wilson won the 2019 conference championship 1-0 in double overtime to claim their first conference title.
No. 2 Keystone
The Keystone College field hockey team enters the conference title game with a record of 9-8.
The Giants clinched a spot in the finals with a 7-0 victory over No. 3 Cedar Crest in the CSAC Semifinals on Wednesday.
The Argentinian trio of Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Vicente de Paul), Maria Belin Rodriguez-Molina, and Vicky Mainero (Francisco Alvarez, Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Patrick's College) combined have scored 40 goals this season. Tomada leads the team in assists with nine.
Defensively, Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) has a team-high 11 defensive saves. She is currently fourth in all of Division III in defensive saves this season. Goalkeeper Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) has had a strong season in goal, making 46 saves and posting a goals-against average of 1.78.
In the semifinal match, Mainero scored four times while Rodriguez-Molina, Jordan Vandermark (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), and Mercedes Goodwin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) each scored once. The Giants tallied 24 shots in the semifinals and limited the Falcons to only three shots.
No.1 Wilson
Wilson College clinched the top seed in the CSAC Tournament, holding an 11-3 record.
Wilson is CSAC regular season champs for the second-straight year and is looking for its third-straight conference title.
Standout players for Wilson include Alexis Pflumm who scored 12 goals and has six assists on the season. Paige Ney leads the squad in goals with 13.
Senior goalkeeper Allyson Shindler has been stellar in goal this year, making 39 saves and holding a goals-against average of 1.25.
The Phoenix defeated No. 4 Sweet Briar 3-0 in the semifinal match to return to the conference finals. Wilson had three different goal scorers as Pflumm, Ney, and Abigail Rosenberry scored for the Phoenix. Lizzie Landon had an assist in the contest while Wilson held the Vixens to one shot.
Previous Meeting
Keystone and Wilson last met on Oct. 22 where Wilson was victorious in the contest, 1-0. Ney scored the lone goal, just 44 seconds into the contest. Shindler made seven saves in the cage.
